More Excitement Awaits As Ladies Return
It was an exciting -- and controversial -- day at the Rio yesterday as the $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold'em event kicked off. A large field of 1,054 came to play (including a few ruckus-causing men), and of that field just 136 made it to day's end with chips.
La Sengphet has raced out to a huge chip lead after one day of play, with her 148,500 more than twice her nearest competitor when they bagged up chips last night.
But in second lurks Svetlana Gromenkova, winner of this same event in 2008. And a host of other tough competitors are still with above-average stacks, too, among them WSOP bracelet-holder Linda Johnson, recent EPT San Remo winner Liv Boeree, and Evelyn Ng.
We're not far from the cash bubble bursting in this one. And that's when the excitement really begins, as the payouts begin and we make our way closer to a final table.
Coverage begins 2:30 p.m. Vegas time. See you back here then.
