Bradpiece Among Early Day 2 Knockouts

Jerome Bradpiece
Jerome Bradpiece

We've lost a half-dozen players here in the early going, one of whom was Jerome Bradpiece. Bradpiece was all in before the flop with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, but had to have his hand hold up against Hendrik Vogeling's {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The flop couldn't be much worse for Bradpiece -- {K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} -- giving Vogeling a boat. The turn was the {J-Clubs} and river the {Q-Hearts}, and Bradpiece hit the rail.

Vogeling now has 40,000.

Ship It to Shipley

On a flop of {2-Hearts}{J-Spades}{6-Clubs}, Jerome Bradpiece bet 6,500 into the 8,000 pot. John Shipley made the call and the {7-Clubs} hit the turn.

Bradpiece bet 15,000 only to have Shipley move all in for a total of 20,000. Bradpiece made the call and showed {7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{K-Spades} while Shipley tabled {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{K-Hearts}.

The {A-Spades} on the river gave Shipley a much needed double up to 68,000 while Bradpiece is down to 8,500.

Meehan vs. Kassela

After "Minnesota Jim" Meehan raised in middle position, Frank Kassela moved all in for 5,700 from the small blind. Meehan made the call and the two turned over their cards:

Meehan: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Kassela: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Spades}

Kassela was in the lead but Meehan picked up a straight draw when the flop came {Q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn didn't change anything, and neither did the {Q-Clubs} on the river.

Kassela doubled to 14,000 while Meehan dropped to 6,000.

Early Action

A dozen tables with players here at the start of Day 2. Here's some early action from Table 375.

The table folded to Jeremy Dresch who raised to 3,000 from the cutoff, Chau Giang called from the small blind, and Richard Tucker also called from the BB.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Giang checked, Tucker bet the pot -- 9,000 -- and Dresch called. Giang got out, and the turn brought the {A-Hearts}.

This time Tucker checked, and Dresch fired a bet of 10,000, forcing a fold. Dresch is up to 59,000, Tucker is down to 37,000, and Giang has 55,000.

Still Takes Four Cards, Yes?

Sandra Naujoks of Team PokerStars Germany
Sandra Naujoks of Team PokerStars Germany

Team PokerStars Pros Joe Hachem (Australia) and Sandra Naujoks (Germany) are sitting side-by-side at the start of play today over at Table 370. Both are returning to below average stacks: Hachem has 23,700 to start today, and Naujoks 17,200.

Frank Kassela, winner of Event #15, the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship, is sitting to Naujoks left. He also has a below average stack to start today with just 10,500.

"PLO until dinner," proposed Kassela. "Then we play Badugi." Anything to get things going again.

More PLO Action to Come

L.J. Klein, end of Day 1 chip leader
L.J. Klein, end of Day 1 chip leader

Yesterday we introduced Event No. 28, the $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event, as "The Action Game." And, as expected, there was plenty of action in the Pavilion Room on Day 1 as the tourney wound its way through the first ten levels of play.

A total of 596 players entered, a marked increase from the 436 who showed for this one in 2009. And by the end of the night, just over 100 still had chips. That meant we saw something like 50 players hit the rail every hour, a little less than one per minute!

But as anyone who has played PLO knows, that's how it can go. Pot, pot, and boom -- all the chips are in the middle. Somebody is there already, but somebody is drawing. And either could be the favorite.

From yesterday's impressive field L.J. Klein emerged at day's end as our chip leader. Fitting, as Klein was the one who eliminated last year's $2,500 PLO champ J.C. Tran toward the end of Day 1. Also there near the top we find Eric Rabl, Richard Ashby, Jeffrey Schnettler, and Justin Gardenhire. T.J. Cloutier, winner of six WSOP bracelets, returns to an above-average stack today, as does John "Tex" Barch who has already won one PLO bracelet this summer.

But it is still anybody's game. Today we move over to the Amazon Room, where the plan will be to play ten levels or down to a final table, whichever comes first. Coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. local time when the first hands are dealt. See you back here then.
