In Painter's Corner

The absence of free cocktails in the bleachers of this final table arena hasn't dampened the spirits of Jameson Painter's fans, at least. It should be noted, however, that they've been making frequent trips to the cash bar down the hallway, and they're clearly enjoying their time on the rail in Painter's corner.

It's a group of about a dozen of his friends, most of them decked out in bright orange to match Painter's blazing "Illinois" shirt. His fans are well behaved and vocal, and they're intently focused on the action. Amid the relative quiet of the featured table arena come the occasional shouts of, "Pumpkin!!!" that echo around the stage.

Other things overheard from Painter's railbirds:

  • When the T.D. said on the microphone, "Jameson Painter has the button," (in unison) "Uuuuuuuuse it!"
  • When Matt Keikoan raised Painter's big blind, one quiet voice, "Awwww. Jerk."
  • When Painter three-bet a raise from Brock Parker, "Threeeeeee!" (in the style of a basketball announcer)
  • When Painter gave Idema a walk in the big blind, and Idema flashed two aces, "Good read, Pumpkin!!"

Tens Are Good

Matt Keikoan and Dan Idema went heads-up to a {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop. Idema check-called Keikoan's bet, then did the same on the turn, which fell the {3-Clubs}. Keikoan led again when the {2-Spades} hit the river and Idema called.

Keikoan showed {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and his pair of tens were good.

Jameson Painter raised and Kyle Ray made the call.

They went heads-up to an {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop. Ray led out and Painter called. The turn came the {3-Clubs} and Ray check-called Painter's bet. The {5-Spades} hit the river and Ray checked again. Painter bet and Ray gave up his hand. He's down to 375,000.

Ray's Best in the Battle of the Blinds

Jameson Painter raised from the small blind, and Kyle Ray called from the big.

The flop came {8-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts}, and Ray called a Painter bet. Painter checked the {J-Hearts} turn, and now it was he calling the bets. He did the same on the river, check-calling one more when the {J-Diamonds} paired the board.

Ray tabled {5-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} for two pair, and it was good enough to earn him the pot.

Another for Idema

Jameson Painter raised and Daniel Idema looked him up.

Idema check-raised the {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop and Painter called. Idema fired again when the {3-Clubs} hit the tun and Painter called. The river was the {4-Clubs} and Painter folded to Idema's bet.

Idema is now up to 1,685,000 and is virtually tied with Matt Keikoan for the chip lead.

Keikoan Concedes

Dan Idema opened for a raise, Matt Keikoan three-bet and Idema called.

Idema check-called a bet from Keikoan on the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop. Both players checked the {10-Diamonds} on the turn. The river was the {6-Clubs} and Idema led out. Keikoan gave up his hand and Idema took it down.

Brock Parker Eliminated in 5th Place ($105,783)

Brock Parker - 5th place
Brock Parker - 5th place

Brock Parker raised from the button, and Jameson Painter put in three bets from the big blind. Parker had just 185,000 chips to start the hand, and he got them all in there to put himself at risk of elimination yet again.

Showdown
Parker: {K-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}
Painter: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}

Parker needed to catch a card to stay alive, but he couldn't find anything useful on a board of {8-Spades} {2-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}.

King-high isn't going to get it done, and Brock Parker has been knocked off in 5th place. It was another fine run for the impressively bearded double bracelet winner, and he'll be rewarded with a six-figure payday as a consolation prize this time around.
