Sanchez Finds Some Help on the River

David Sanchez raised to 19,000 from the hijack which was soon followed by a 50,000 re-raise from the player on the button. Over in the big blind a player called for his last 25,500.

The side pot didn't take long to play out when the flop came {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Spades} and Sanchez quickly announced he was all in and the player on the button folded.

When Sanchez turned up {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, the player on the button expressed disbelief. It looked good to the player in the big blind, though, as he flipped up {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

The turn came down {7-Clubs} but the river was the {6-Clubs} giving Sanchez a set and a scoop of both pots.

Quick Break

They are pausing now to color up the purple T500 chips. A whole lot of stacks are about to get much smaller and much more orange.

G'night Sands

David "Doc" Sands had 30,500 left after a failed reship. He bet 30,000 of it preflop, leaving himself one chip to cover his cards. Thomas "gnightmoon" Fuller flatted. "Don't flip you hand over," Sands joked. "I don't want you to get a penalty." Fuller said he'd check in the dark as the flop came {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}, and Sands checked behind, keeping his 500 chip. "I'll bet this one," Fuller said as the {5-Hearts} came on the turn. Sands called off with {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and was drawing dead to Fuller's {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Sands is out, and Fuller is back up to 170,000 after slipping at the beginning of the level.

Dufek Knocks One Out

John Dufek had called an opponent's all-in preflop raise and found out he was way ahead when he tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. His opponent showed {a-Spades}{8-Hearts} and would need quite a bit of help from the deck in order to pull ahead. None of that help came, however, as the hand played out with {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades} coming on the board.

Dufek now has about 175,000 chips.

Running Like a Champ

Brad Gury went from 50,000 to 200,000 in two hands. Joe Cada stood by on the rail to cheer on his horse through both. The first is pretty unusual. Gury open-shipped eight big blinds with {a-}{8-}. Standard so far. But then another player in middle position decided to call with {10-}{5-}. Maybe he had a feeling, but it didn't work out for him, and Gury doubled up once. The next hand, he doubled again when his queens held against {a-}{j-}. Gury's now back in the game and still laughing about his ten-five gift.

Sands Sinking

Richard Florestan moved all in for 121,500, and David Sands shoved over top of him. Everyone folded quickly, and it was time for showdown. Florestan was at risk and in the lead with {a-Spades}{q-Spades}, while Sands would need to improve with his {a-}{j-}. The board ran out {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}, giving Florestan the nut flush to double to 250,000. Sands was crippled with just 30,000.

Lewis Back From Break On a High Note

On one of the last hands before leaving for break, Luther Lewis limped from middle position with the big blind being the only other player looking for a cheap flop. The flop they got was {3-Clubs}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the big blind check-called a 10,000 chip bet from Lewis.

The big blind checked once more when when the {6-Clubs} came on the turn and Lewis bet 30,000, at which time the big blind raised to 60,000. Lewis called and when the river came {a-Spades} the big blind announced he was all in.

A call from Lewis would put his tournament life at risk, as the big blind had him covered. "I really don't think I can get away from this," said Lewis before finally making the call.

Lewis showed {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} while his opponent had a lower set with {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. The double up put Lewis up to 330,000.
