2010 World Series of Poker
Aces, Better Aces, and a Fight
Dmitry Nemirovsky and Ben Middleton were raising and reraising each other all in. Somehow Men Nguyen got involved in a shouting match with Middleton, and the floor had to come over to calm things down enough to continue the hand. "All right, let's see who has the real aces," Ryan D'Angelo said as they players turned up their hands. Turns out the both did.
Middleton:
Nemirovsky:
"I'll take the five-six of diamonds," said G0lfa, calling it.
The flop gave Middleton a gutshot, and the on the turn added five outs. Bink. The on the river filled his straight, and Middleton gave a fist pump. Nemirovsky couldn't believe his eyes. He paid out 105,000 to double Middleton, leaving himself with just 30,000 and a beat red bald head.
Nguyen went back to berating Middleton after the hand, though the Master kept repeating "I don't say anything."
"No, except to the dealers," Middleton shot back. That's when the floor stepped in and threatened both with a one-round penalty if either said another word that wasn't "bet, raise, or call."

Mercier Tries It On
Five players made it to the flop and it checked around to Jason Mercier who bet 11,000. Two players got out of the way but Micah Smith in the big blind called, as did Gary Bolden in mid position. Intriguing.
All three players checked the turn, and they proceeded to the river - the . Smith bet out 22,000 and Bolden spent some time in the tank before folding. Over to Mercier, who now raised to 60,000. But Smith went all in and Mercier folded instantly.
Mercier: 170,000
Smith: 200,000
D'Angelo Hits Men with a Wheel
We caught up with the action when the board read . Men Nguyen fired 7,000, and Ryan "G0lfa" D'Angelo made it 25,000 to go. Kyle Bowker snap folded, and Nguyen made the call after a few tries at counting out the correct amount. The river paired the board with the . Nguyen bet 40,000, and it only took Ryan a second to announce a call. Nguyen started to turn over his hand but stopped when he saw D'Angelo had turned a wheel with . Nguyen threw his cards into the muck.
"I put you on a flush draw, not a set," Ryan said. "Good bet though. I thought about folding." Whether he ever thought about it or not, Ryan made the right call and is up to 260,000. Nguyen is sinking fast and down to 150,000.
Level: 16
Blinds: 2,000/4,000

Deep Freiberg
Kyle Bowker limped in early position and Alex Freiberg made it 13,500 from the button. Men Nguyen called in the small blind, Ryan D'Angelo called in the big, Bowker called too and all four of them saw a flop.
Flop:
Nguyen bet out 16,000 and D'Angelo folded. Bowker called, though, and the short-stacked Freiberg called all in for his last 7,500.
Turn:
Nguyen bet pot - 91,500 - which by coincidence was the exact size of Bowker's remaining stack. Bowker tanked up for a while but eventually folded.
On their backs.
Nguyen:
Freiberg:
River:
Freiberg's kings held up against Nguyen's pair of deuces and gutshot draw, and he more than tripled up to 75,000. Nguyen was at 240,000, Bowker at the aforementioned 91,500.
Bubble Sighting
After fifteen levels adrift in a sea of uncertainty, we've caught sight of land floating out in the distance. And my, it looks like a giant shiny money bubble. Ok, so maybe by Day 32 of the World Series we've started hallucinating. But we can promise that there are now only six tables remaining. That means the field is only one table away from making the money.
Glantz Spins the Wheel
Matt Glantz limped, and after checking to see how much he had behind, Di Dang raised to 7,500 on the button. In the big blind, Franklin Grigsby clicked the "pot" button, making it a total of 27,000 to see a flop. Glantz looked tortured for a minute but decided to call, leaving himself 30,500 behind. Dang flatted as well.
"Spin the wheel," Glantz said.
The flop came , and Grigsby moved all in. Glantz pushed his whole stack across the line, and Dang, who had them both well covered, announced a call. Three-way showdown time.
Glantz: for the flopped nine-high straight and nine-high flush draw (nice spin!)
Grigsby: for bottom pair, a gutshot, and a backdoor flush draw
Dang: for the flopped nut straight
Grigsby was drawing thin, and Glantz, whose nine-high flush draw was live, needed to hit a diamond to best Dang's higher straight. The on the turn didn't help him, but the on the river was enough to secure a triple up for Glantz. Grigsby was eliminated in the conflagration, while Glantz was given new life with 173,000. Dang took a hit but got about 15,000 out of the side pot and still has a substantial 247,000.
Boats Are Expensive
Niall Charlton checked a board to Josh Tieman, and Tieman bet 18,000. Charlton caled, and Josh tabled for jacks full of eights. Charlton mucked grumpily, slipping to 60,000 while Tieman stacked up 108,000.
In a similar hand, Gary Bolden bet 18,000 on the river of . Mercier called to see Bolden roll over for the rivered boat. "F%^k," Mercier let out, saying he'd made his nut flush with the same card. Not to worry, Mercier still has 203,000.
