Mark Babekov Eliminated in 4th Place ($62,232)

Mark Babekov - 4th Place
Mark Babekov - 4th Place

Mark Babekov raised to 84,000, and from the small blind, Steve Chanthabouasy potted. Babekov moved all in for not much more, and Chanthabouasy called to get to showdown.

Babekov: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Chanthabouasy: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

It was pretty much over for Babekov after the {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} gave Chanthabouasy top set. The {4-Clubs} on the turn upgraded him to a boat, and Babekov was drawing dead. The meaningless river fell the {10-Diamonds}, and Babekov made his exit in fourth place. Babekov finished third in a Venetian Deep Stack for $18,000 last week, but this is his first WSOP cash.

Dempsey Plays the Bully

James Dempsey has been involved in nearly all of the hands that went to a flop this level. He raised to 40,000, and Mark Babekov called. Both blinds folded, and the flop came out {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Dempsey bet out 72,000, and Babekov potted for a chunk of his stack. Unintimidated, Dempsey repotted, enough to put Babekov all in. He mucked unhappily, leaving himself with around 260,000.

Liu Gets Away

Just after doubling Mark Babekov, James Dempsey raised to 40,000. JJ Liu called from the big blind. The flop fell {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}, and Liu checked. Dempsey bet 62,000, and Liu slid out her whole stack. Dempsey had to call another 170,000 to put Liu at risk, but he opted to fold instead. Her mother, on the rail overlooking the final table, stood up to clap for her daughter.

Dempsey Doubles Babekov

James Dempsey raised to 60,000 from the small blind, and big blind Mark Babekov bet the pot. Dempsey shoved to put Babekov all in, and he called for a total of 333,000. It was a race between Dempsey's {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Babekov's {j-Spades}{9-Spades}. The {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop gave Babekov a straight draw, and the {5-Spades} on the turn added a flush draw to it. And on cue, the {10-Spades} appeared on the turn to give Babekov both a straight and a flush for the double up. He has 666,000 now, dropping Dempsey to 1.17 million.

Scott Haraden Eliminated in 5th Place ($45,393)

Scott Haraden - 5th Place
Scott Haraden - 5th Place

Scott Haraden raised to 50,000 under the gun, and when it folded to James Dempsey, he bumped it up to 130,000. Haraden called to see the {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, then moved all in for his last 90,000. Dempsey called with {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for top pair. Haraden would need to hit a diamond to stay alive with {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. The {5-Spades} on the turn was no help, and the {2-Hearts} on the river was a brick as well. Haraden was relegated to the rail in fifth place, not bad for his first WSOP cash.

Haraden's elimination pushed Dempsey even further out in front of the rest of the pack. He's got nearly 1.5 million now.

Armen Kara Eliminated in 6th Place ($33,573)

Armen Kara - 6th Place
Armen Kara - 6th Place

Action folded to Armen Kara in the small blind, and he raised to 70,000, leaving himself less than 80,000 behind. Mark Babekov called from the big blind to see the {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop. Kara swiftly moved all in, and Babekov decided to call. With {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for bottom pair, Kara was ahead of Babekov's {k-Spades}{6-Spades}. Kara was still in good shape after the {j-Spades} on the turn, but the {6-Spades} on the river was the death blow for the short stack.

This is Kara's fourth WSOP cash and his first final table.
