Lewis Out Eleventh

James Lewis
James Lewis

James Lewis got his chips in with {Q-Diamonds} {10-Spades} against {A-Spades} {K-Clubs}, all in and trailing.

The {A-Diamonds} on the flop was not good news for the all-in player, and the board of {8-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {4-Clubs} {A-Hearts} has given us our 11th-place finisher, James Lewis.

Serock Slide

Joe Serock raised to 35,000 from the hijack seat, and Armen Kara reraised all in for 144,000 total. Serock made the call for his own tournament life, though he didn't seem to like it. He'd like it even less when the cards were turned up:

Serock: {A-Clubs} {10-Spades}
Kara: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Serock flopped a gutterball, but there wasn't much else to help his chances as the board rolled out {7-Clubs} {J-Spades} {9-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {5-Clubs}. Unable to get over the hump, Serock has been sent packing in 12th place. He'll earn a small pay bump, for what it's worth.

Kara was the shortest stack with 24,000 at the start of the previous level, but he now finds himself as the proud owner of about 250,000.

Hayden Slips Away

Melissa Hayden got the rest of her short stack into the pot with {A-Spades} {8-Hearts}, in as good a shape as she could hope for against James Dempsey's {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs}.

Things weren't in good shape for long. The flop came {6-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {2-Clubs}, ending the hand right there. The {7-Spades} and {6-Diamonds} filled out the board as Hayden was gathering her belongings, and she has been knocked off in 13th place. Her table all wished her well and engaged her in some brief chatter about how much they'd enjoyed playing with her, but it was seemingly little consolation to a disappointed Hayden.

She's off to the payout desk to collect more than $9,000, but her run at a bracelet has come to an end earlier than she'd hoped.

Haraden Binks the Boat

Under the gun, Melissa Hayden made it 23,000 to go, and Scott Haraden came along with the call in postion.

The two of them went off to a flop of {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts}, and Hayden continued out with a bet of 30,000. Haraden called, and the {5-Diamonds} hit fourth street. Hayden checked this time, and Haraden took his cue to bet 45,000 at the pot. Hayden promptly check-raised all in, and Haraden made the call to put himself all in and at risk.

Showdown
Hayden: {7-Spades} {7-Hearts} (overpair)
Haraden: {3-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} (full house)

Haraden shot out of his chair and let out a beastly, "Yes!!!" as he made a lap around the table with his chest puffed out.

River: {2-Clubs}

Haraden apologized profusely to Hayden for his celebration, but he was clearly thrilled to be raking in double-up chips. He's shot himself to 280,000, and Hayden is all the way back to a depressing 55,000.

Hayden Flops Lucky to Stay In

James "Flushy" Dempsey raised to 16,000 to open the pot, and Melissa Hayden three-bet to 60,000. Dempsey reraised it right back, and Hayden called all in for about 105,000 total, and she would not like what she saw at showdown:

Dempsey: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}
Hayden: {4-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}

Ah, but things would get better for Ms. Hayden. The flop came down {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {4-Hearts}, giving her the lucky set of fours and putting her two cards away from a double up. The {J-Diamonds} on fourth street and {5-Hearts} on fifth sealed the deal, doubling Hayden up to 215,000. Flushy is still just fine, but he's taken a big hit back to about 330,000.

Gotlieb Finally Succumbs

After an up-and-down level, Joe Gotlieb has finally been relieved of his remaining chips. JJ Liu raised to 20,000 under the gun, and Gotlieb called in position.

The flop came out {7-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {4-Spades}, and Gotlieb called another 20,000-chip bet. The fireworks came on fourth street as the {9-Diamonds} dropped off the deck. Liu knocked the table this time, and Gotlieb bet the pot. Liu check-raised big, and Gotlieb called all in for about 115,000 total.

Showdown
Liu: {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs} (full house)
Gotlieb: {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs} (open-ended straight flush draw)

Despite his powerful draw, Gotlieb was drawing to only two outs, needing to hit that straight flush in order to fade elimination. The river made his straight, but the {8-Diamonds} was the wrong color, and Gotlieb's hand was not good enough. He has been knocked out of the field, moving Liu all the way up to 415,000 in the process.

...And Gotlieb Concedes Another Double Up

Scott Haraden
Scott Haraden

Scott Haraden open-raised to 19,000 from the button, and Joe Gotlieb potted it from the big blind. Haraden called all in for about 80,000 total, turning up {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. He was in a good spot to double up as Gotlieb tabled his inferior {3-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}.

The {Q-Spades} on the flop was a nice sight for the at-risk Haraden, and the board of {Q-Spades} {5-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Spades} secured his double up to 164,000.
