JP Gets Aggro

It folded around to Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly in the small blind who raised to 5,500. The young gentleman in the big blind made the call.

They saw a {2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop and Kelly bet out small; his opponent called. They saw a {7-Diamonds} and Kelly bet out sort of medium; again his opponent called. They reached the {10-Spades} river and this time Kelly bet out big - 25,000 to be precise. His opponent peeked down at his hole cards in case they had changed into two completely different, better cards - but they hadn't, and he folded.

Kelly was at 260,000 or so after that.

Somerville Hits His Flush

We arrived at the table just as the dealer was pulling in chips from three players. One player was all in as Jason Somerville and another player made the call and were still active. The flop read {J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} at the time.

The turn brought the {4-Spades} and Somerville moved all in, having the other player covered. He folded and Somerville showed the {5-Spades}{3-Spades} to go up against the all-in player's {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}.

The river was the {7-Spades} to give Somerville a flush and he scooped the pot to move back towards 400,000 in chips.

Shipley Bokked

David Benyamine
David Benyamine

It's official, I'm what our English readers might recognize as a "bokker". No sooner had I retold the story of John Shipley, and hinted that this could be his year, than he was busy moving more than half his stack across the felt.

I joined proceedings on the {3-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{A-Spades} flop, where Shipley had check-raised David Benyamine's lead of 9,500 to 25,100. Benyamine called.

On the {K-Hearts} turn, Shipley once again checked putting the decision on Benyamine. The Frenchman thought for longer than Rodin's "The Thinker" before finally trickling 23,000 onto the felt. Shipley immediately slid in a stack of orange chips (signifying that he was putting his opponent all in), and Benyamine snap-called.

Benyamine: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Shipley: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

A {3-Spades} river changed nothing, and Shipley's stack had been decimated. He is now right back down to 70,000.

More Chips for Brown

Andrew Brown
Andrew Brown

Andrew Brown just eliminated another player. The flop was {8-}{7-}{3-} and Brown had a set of threes. His opponent held top two pair. The turn and river were clean for Brown and he won the pot, sending the player to the rail.

Brown's now got 673,000 and looks to be the biggest stack in the room.

Harrington on Rivering Trips

A player in early position raised it up to 7,200 and Dan Harrington defended his big blind. The flop was {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, and Harrington called a bet of 12,300 before checking down the {A-Diamonds} turn. On the {Q-Hearts} river, however, Harrington took the lead, firing out a bet of 18,000. His opponent called, only to be shown a triumphant {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades} for the rivered trips.

It's been a few years since Harrington made an impact in the Rio, but don't count him out - he's on 180,000.

Korfman Loses Some

A pot between Tony Korfman in the cutoff and a player in the big blind was raised preflop to build a pot of about 12,000.

The flop came {8-Spades}{a-Spades}{9-Hearts} and the hijack bet 6,000 with Korfman calling. When the {10-Spades} came on the turn the hijack bet 20,000 and called a raise to 45,000 from Korfman.

The river was the {5-Hearts} and the player in the hijack check-called a bet of 60,000 from Korfman who said "good hand" and mucked his cards even before the hijack showed {j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for a straight.

Eskeland Escapes Race With a W

2010 bracelet winner Sigurd Eskeland was all in and at risk preflop moments ago. He was racing with {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} against an opponent's {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop was quite fortuitous, and Eskeland was able to dodge a ten on both the turn ({6-Diamonds}} and the river ({4-Diamonds}). Eskeland is alive and well, sitting with 175,000 chips.

Kassela Turning Things Around

Frank Kassela has been on a bit of a downward trend over the last level or two but he's just turned things around a little in the right direction after winning a recent pot.

Kassela opened with a raise from the button to 5,500 with just the big blind making the call. The flop landed {Q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and both player checked. The turn was the {J-Spades} and again it was check, check. The river was the {6-Hearts} and for a third time the big blind checked to Kassela who finally tossed out a bet of 10,000. The big blind made the call.

"Two pair..." declared Kassela as he opened {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}. His opponent flashed {Q-}{10-}. Kassela is back up to 150,000.

Junglen Boogie

Adam Junglen earlier in the Series

Adam Junglen has doubled up, coming over the top from the big blind and being called by Jay Rosenkrantz in the hijack.

"You're good," commented Rosenkrantz as Junglen showed {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. Rosenkrantz had {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}.

Board: {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

"72,200" was the debt.
