Busquet Busts Robl With a Rivered Wheel

Level 8 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Olivier Busquet Moves On
Olivier Busquet Moves On

With Andrew Robl holding 114,000 chips and the blinds at 4,000/8,000, Olivier Busquet min-raised and Robl shoved his stack into the middle. Busquet made what he later termed "a reluctant call" with {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Robl flipped up {K-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, which had the Frenchman's holding dominated. The flop was revealed to be {A-}{2-}{4-} and Busquet picked up four additional outs. A turn card of {6-} was no help, but a {3-} on the river completed the heads-up specialist's wheel straight and propelled him into the Round of 16.

Jaffe Eliminates Haxton

Level 8 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

While we were writing up Jaffe's double up the match came to a conclusion. Haxton committed the rest of his short stack with {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs} but was in bad shape against Jaffe's {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. Jaffe had a jack in the window and made trips on the flop to eliminate Haxton from the tournament.

Haxton Takes a Hit

Level 8 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Isaac Haxton and Jonathan Jaffe have had a back and forth match for most the day. The board was {6-Hearts} {2-Spades} {J-Spades} {4-Clubs} and Jaffe bet 50,000 into a sizable pot. Haxton called and the river came {7-Hearts}. Jaffe moved all in and Haxton called.
Haxton: {J-Hearts} {8-Spades}
Jaffe: {K-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}

Haxton was left only around 65,000 left and in desperate need of a double up.

Paredes' Set of Fives Eliminates Juanda

Level 7 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

John Juanda made a preflop raise and was smooth called by David Paredes. The flop came {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and Paredes led out for 15,000 chips, only to see Juanda check-raise to 40,000. Paredes pushed his stack into the middle and Juanda called, revealing the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for top pair and a strong kicker. Paredes was far ahead, however, with {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and when the turn and river came {10-Spades},{10-Clubs}, his set was a winner. Paredes is now in the Round of 16 and has earned at least $67,436 for his efforts.

Break is Over, Let the Bust-Outs Begin

Level 7 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Only a few hands into the 3,000/6,000 level, Erik Cajelais and Nikolay Endakov found themselves in a preflop raising war, which resulted in both players committing their entire stacks. Cajelais flipped up {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, but was dominated by the {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} of Endakov. The final board ran out {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts} and the quiet Russian found himself in the Round of 16.
