Erik Seidel ... gunning for bracelet nine!
Erik Seidel ... gunning for bracelet nine!

Another day inside the halls of the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino has been wrapped up with Day 1 of Event #24: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout of the 2011 World Series of Poker coming to a conclusion.

387 players were spread over forty tables today which bested last year's number of 358 as everyone eyed the $436,568 first prize - which surprisingly sat a few thousand short of the amount Joshua Tieman collected when he snagged his first bracelet.

Unfortunately for Tieman, there would be no back-to-back run as he was bundled out late in the day. However it wasn't just because it wasn't Tieman's day, but his starting table - along with every other one - was littered with notable poker professionals, online giants and tournament veterans, making this one of the toughest fields assembled so far this World Series.

Only forty players managed to best their table to ensure not only a $13,368 payday but also a chance of collecting a WSOP final table appearance and a potential six-figure payday and gold coveted bracelet. Waving the flag for USA includes Erik Seidel, Gavin Smith, Tommy Vedes, Dan Smith, Jordan "Jymaster11" Young, Justin Bonomo, Tom Marchese and recent bracelet winner Sean Getzwiller. However the Brits are still putting on a strong showing here as James Akenhead, JP Kelly, James Dempsey and Toby Lewis are still about as well as other internationals Maxim Lykov and Darren Kramer.

Tomorrow will see the remaining players play down to a final table of ten, and the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be here providing extensive live coverage from 2:30 p.m. PDT as we continue writing the story of the Event #24: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout Champion!
