Tommy on Top

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Chip Leader Tommy Chen
Chip Leader Tommy Chen

After two days, and 17 levels of Razz action, we are down to our final 24 players. Tommy Chen leads the way with an impressive 473,000 chips. Chen was continuously accumulating throughout the day, earning him the nickname "Razz Machine" from 2011 WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Idema.

Idema was unable to make it out of the day however, and neither were fellow 2011 bracelet winners Chris Viox, Jason Somerville, Eric Rodawig, Viacheslav Zhukov, and Jason Mercier. Idema and Viox did make the money though, banking $5,334 and $4,475 respectively.

There is one player remaining who is looking for his second bracelet this summer. John Monnette not only survived Day 2, he ascended to the top of the ranks towards the end of the night. bagging 205,000 of chips

Other notables who made the made the money include Timothy Finne, Stuart Rutter, Perry Friedman, Shawn Sheikhan, and Chau Giang.

Two Team PokerStars Pros are still alive. Chad Brown (90,000) and Victor Ramdin (144,000) survived the day, and are both looking for their first ever WSOP gold bracelet. Brown has already made a final table at this year's series, and Ramdin has five cashes (including this event).

For a full list of the remaining players and their counts, click the Chip Counts tab above.

Play will resume tomorrow at 3 p.m. local time, where we will play ten levels, stopping only if a champion is crowned. Make sure you join us then for all the Razz action you can handle!

Goodnight from the Rio!

Monnette Making Moves

Recent first-time WSOP bracelet winner John Monnette has been climbing up the leaderboard towards the end of the day. We’ve recently seen him take down a couple of pots including the following one.

Monnette: (X)(X) / {2-}{3-}{4-}{J-} /(X)
Dyer: (X)(X) / {7-}{5-}{2-}{2-} / (X)

We caught up with the action on fifth where Monnette bet and Greg Dyer called. The action was the same on the last two streets and Monnette announced “wheel” as he showed {A-}{5-}. Dyer mucked his hand as he stayed near the bottom of the chip counts.

Chau Giang
Chau Giang

Smirnov: {2-}{4-} / {3-}{6-}
Giang: {A-}{4-} / {5-}{K-}

We found Chau Giang all in on fourth against Mikhail Smirnov. Smirnov made a six-low when he caught a {9-} on fifth and a {5-} on sixth. This had Giang who hit a {5-} on fifth and another {5-} on sixth drawing dead which eliminated him.
