The Aces of Lady Maverick Fail to Hold

We didn't catch all the action, but we arrived in time to see Vanessa Rousso get all in for her last 6,800 on a flop of {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Her opponent made the call and Rousso was in bad shape.

Rousso: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

Rousso's aces had been cracked by a set, leaving her in need of some major help. The {4-Diamonds} did not deliver any, and neither did the {2-Hearts}. Rousso was clearly frustrated as she gathered her things and exited the Pavilion Room.

Chips for Chan

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Preflop action had built a pot of about 6,000 between a player in the cutoff and Terrence Chan in the small blind, with Chan having put in the last raise preflop and his opponent calling. "Queen on the flop," Chan's opponent cracked as the dealer prepared to show the first three cards, and Chan chuckled in response.

The flop brought no queen, coming {5-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Spades}, and both checked. The turn was the {A-Diamonds}. Chan checked, his opponent bet 2,000, and Chan called. The river brought the {6-Spades} and a couple more checks.

Chan's opponent showed {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, and Chan laughed again as he turned over his hand -- {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. "I couldn't help but laugh when you said that," explained a smiling Chan.

Chan has more reason to smile -- he's closing in on the 70,000-chip mark now.

Cowboys for Demidov

A raising war broke out between the player in the small blind and Ivan Demidov in the big blind. With 3,400 pulled into the pot, Demidov had reraised 1,600 more and the small blind made it 4,100 to go. Demidov made the call and the duo watched the flop come down {6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

The small blind checked, Demidov bet 3,500, the small blind moved all in for 14,300, and Demidov made the call.

Small Blind: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Ivan Demidov: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

The pocket cowboys of Demidov were out in front and stayed there as the {2-Hearts} turn and {2-Spades} river changed nothing. Demidov sent his opponent to the rail while chipping up to 58,000.

Brikis Avoids a Showdown

With four players in the hand and about 2,100 in the pot, action checked around to the player in the cutoff on the {8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop and he bet 750. Josh Brikis, who was in the big blind position, was the only player to make the call and watch the turn come down the {A-Hearts}.

Brikis checked, the cutoff bet 1,350, and Brikis woke up with a check-raise to 4,050. The cutoff thought for a minute before making the call and watching the {K-Hearts} hit the river. Brikis wasted little time in betting a single orange T5,000 chip, which put the cutoff in the tank. Eventually he settled ona fold and allowed Brikis to take down the pot without a showdown.

Set of Treys Pays for Shaniac

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

A player in middle position opened for 500 (a 2.5x raise), and Shane "Shaniac" Schleger called from the small blind. Schleger is looking to improve on his deep run in Event No. 40, the $5,000 NLHE 6-max. event where he finished 17th.

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and both players checked. The turn was the {2-Spades} and Schleger checked once more. His opponent fired 700, and Schleger called.

The river was the {3-Hearts}. Schleger checked again, and his opponent tossed out a bet of 1,850. Without hesitation, Schleger grabbed some chips and set them in front. His opponent leaned forward and squinted. "Forty-eight fifty," said Schleger, indicating the amount of the raise.

Taking just a few seconds more, his opponent put out 3,000 more to call. "Set," said Schleger, flipping over his {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}. His opponent revolved his cards in his hand -- showing a face card (which suggested an overpair) -- and tossed his hand in the muck.

Schleger is sitting with about 38,000 at present.

Deeb Not Too Shabby

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Freddy Deeb just added about 22,000 to his stack, picking up a nice pot following a {K-}{K-} vs. {Q-}{Q-} all-in preflop confrontation in which Deeb held the better pair. The board ran out {J-}-high, knocking out Deeb's opponent and leaving him with a stack of about 58,000.

Bonding Doubles

Three players created a pot of about 3,000 and saw a flop of {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades}. It went check-check to Lars Bonding on the button. He fired out two yellow chips, worth T1,000 apiece, which the small blind called. The big blind then check-raised to 6,000.

Bonding thought for a minute before tossing in a call, which was followed by a fold from the small blind. When the dealer burned and turned the {J-Diamonds}, the big blind checked, Bonding moved all in for 10,150, and the big blind snap called.

Big Blind: {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Bonding: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

Bonding held a full house and had his opponent drawing dead. The inconsequential {6-Spades} was put out on the river as Bonding doubled his stack.
