Only Five Remain

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

The tension in the air is rising with each elimination. Now that we are down to the final five players, each one remaining is guaranteed to take home more than $150,000. Not bad for a few days of work!

The chip lead has changed hands a number of times throughout the course of this final table. Peter Ippolito is currently in the lead while Simon Charette has the shortest stack at the table.

Action folded to Peter Ippolito in the cutoff who raised to 110,000. Alex Queen then re-raised to 285,000 from the small blind. When action was back on Ippolito he thought for a bit before announcing he was all in. Queen snap-called putting his tournament life at risk.

Ippolito: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Queen: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Queen was well ahead and seemed poised to double up. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} giving Queen a pair of aces but also giving Ippolito a flush draw. The turn brought a harmless {4-Spades}, but the {j-Diamonds} on the river completed Ippolito's flush and sent Queen to the rail in sixth place.

Pius Heinz - Eliminated in 7th Place ($83,286)

Action folded around to Pius Heinz in the small blind who shoved all in for his last 715,000. Yevgeniy Timoshenko was in the big blind and after looking at his cards only took a few seconds before deciding to call.

Heinz: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Timoshenko: {a-Spades}{3-Hearts}

Timoshenko's ace-high was leading meaning Heinz was going to need some help to stay alive. The board ran out {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Heinz was sent to the rail.

A Note on Blinds and Antes

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Just stealing the blinds and antes at this point amounts to 110,000 each hand. The short stacks can gain a lot of ground by picking up a couple in an orbit.
