Owais Making Moves, Table Upping Ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

Owais Ahmed opened to 25,000 from the cutoff, and Scott Seiver called out of the small blind. The flop came down {9-Spades}{q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, and Seiver checked to Ahmed who continued for 35,000. Seiver called.

The turn was the {3-Hearts}, and Seiver checked again. Ahmed moved all in for 108,000, and Seiver tank-folded.

The table later realized that they had played with the blinds at 6,000-12,000 (Level 17 blinds, rather than Level 16) during the entire no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha rotations. Nothing can be done about it now, but players like Seiver who saw a dip in their stack are non too pleased.

Language Lessons at Table 284

Level 16

No-Limit Hold'em

Phil Hellmuth opened with a raise to 45,000 from the cutoff -- a 4.5x raise -- and it folded to Matt Glantz who reraised all in from the big blind for 171,000 more. Hellmuth called, showing {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Glantz turned over {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

The flop came {A-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, pairing Glantz and leaving Hellmuth looking for a nine. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and river the {Q-Hearts}, and Glantz doubles back to 458,000. Hellmuth meanwhile now has about 900,000.

And, as you might imagine, some words to share.

"What are you thinking?" he asked Glantz afterwards. "I open to 45 to send a message, and you move in with ace-six?!?" Glantz continued to stack his chips.

"You don't speak the language of no-limit," he added.

Lisandro Doubles Through Hansen

Gus didn't wanna see those kings
Gus didn't wanna see those kings

No-Limit Hold'em

From under the gun, Jeff Lisandro raised to 24,000. Gus Hansen was in the cutoff seat and three-bet to 62,000. Play then folded back to Lisandro. He gave it some thought and then announced that he was all in.

As soon as he announced all in, Hansen reached across the table and took 62,000 out of Lisandro's stack and instructed the dealer to first pull in the three-bet amount. Hansen then started breaking down Lisandro's stack, not the dealer. Hansen broke down the big chips and deemed them, "Two-hundred and forty thousand and then that," pointing to the extra T1,000 chips stacked behind that he didn't break down. "And what are those? Another thirty-seven thousand?"

The dealer then broke down the T1,000 chips and totaled them to be 41,000, making Lisandro's all-in shove for 343,000 when you include the three-bet amount. Hansen needed to call 281,000 more.

He mulled it over for awhile and then made the comment, "Well, [David] Oppenheim is out so I guess that makes the call easier." He also started mumbling while thinking, "Well, if he has that, I don't want to call. If he has that I don't want to call. If he has aces, I definitely don't want to call." He then counted down his own stack a couple of times.

In the end, Hansen tossed the chips in with the comment, "Ahhh, what the heck."

Lisandro immediately turned over the {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and Hansen turned up the {A-Spades} saying, "I have one overcard." His other card was the {J-Diamonds}.

The flop, turn and river ran out {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades}{Q-Spades} and Lisandro's kings held. He won the hand and doubled up to over 700,000. Hansen slipped below 500,000.

Arieh Adds

No-Limit Hold'em

Matt Glantz raised to UTG from 23,000, and it folded back to Josh Arieh who called from the big blind. The flop came {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Arieh checked, Glantz bet 47,000, and Arieh called. Both players then checked the {9-Clubs} turn.

The river brought the {6-Clubs} and a check from Arieh. Glantz paused a beat, then checked as well. Arieh tabled {J-Spades}{10-Spades} for tens and sevens, and Glantz mucked.

Arieh Avoids Baker's Bait

Level 16

No-Limit Hold'em

Chip leader Josh Arieh opened for 30,000 from middle position, then it folded around to David "ODB" Baker in the small blind who reraised to 155,000 total. Phil Hellmuth folded the big blind, and Arieh weighed his options.

After a few moments, Arieh asked Baker what he had behind, and Baker quickly tallied up his chips. "97 more if you want to put me all in," he explained, stacking up the 97,000 chips he had left. "Or 125 if you want to see a flop," he added with a grin.

Arieh finally folded his {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} face up. He still leads with about 1.85 million, while Baker now sits with 295,000.

Broadway vs. Broadway

No-Limit Hold'em

Ben "Benba" Lamb opened to 28,000 in late position, Sebastian Ruthenberg called out of the small blind, and the flop came down {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Ruthenberg checked, Lamb bet 35,000, and Ruthenberg called.

The turn was the {q-Diamonds}, and Ruthenberg check-called another bet from Lamb - this one was worth 110,000.

The river was the {a-Spades}, Ruthenberg checked a third time, and Lamb fired 145,000. Ruthenberg called.

Ruthenberg: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Lamb: {k-Spades}{4-Spades}

Both players made Broadway on the river, and chopped the pot.

Hansen's Antics

Level 16

No-Limit Hold'em

Minh Ly raised from middle position to 23,000. Action folded to Gus Hansen in the small blind and he went through some antics before actually acting on his hand.

First, Hansen asked Robert Mizrachi in the big blind how much he had. Mizrachi began to count and Hansen responded, "O.K., that's good enough." Hansen then took two blue T5,000 chips and tossed them to George Lind on his right and asked for change.

He then picked up a water bottle on the chair to his left, asked Mizrachi if it was his or anyone else at the table if it was theirs. Everyone declined and then Hansen took a big swig of it. Then, he three-bet to 62,000. Action folded back to Ly and he also gave it up to allow Hansen to win the pot.

Lamb Quads

No-Limit Hold'em

Sebastian Ruthenberg opened to 25,000 from middle position, Sebastien Sabic called in the small blind, and Ben "Benba" Lamb defended his big. All three players knuckled on the {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop, and the turn was the {a-Spades}. Sabic checked, Lamb fired 38,000, Ruthenberg folded, and Sabic called.

The river was another ace - the {a-Hearts} - and Sabic checked a third time. Lamb quickly bet 160,000, forcing Sabic to go into the tank. Sabic eventually called, and Lamb opened up {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for quad aces.

Oppenheim Out

Level 16

No-Limit Hold'em

David Oppenheim returned to a short stack today, and on one of the first hands dealt committed his last 150,000 or so with a preflop raise from middle position. It folded to George Lind in the small blind who called the raise, and after a bit of study Gus Hansen folded the big blind.

Oppenheim {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Lind {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, and Lind's hand remained best. Oppenheim is out in 28th, while Lind improves to 1.45 million.

Phil Galfond all in and gone

No-Limit Hold'em

Phil Galfond entered the day as the short stack with 47,000 chips, and got them all in the middle on the first hand of the day. Josh Arieh opened to 27,000 on the button, Galfond moved all in from the big blind, and Arieh called.

Arieh: {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Galfond: {q-Spades}{6-Hearts}

Galfond was crushed, and exited after the board ran {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.
