Blenkarn Busto

Sadly, there will be no more notes from Jeff "The Messenger" Blenkarn after he just recalled his elimination from the 2011 WSOP Main Event with us at media row, which happened over the space of two hands.

Earlier, Freddy Deeb raised all-in for 103,000 from under the gun with {A-}{K-} before Blenkarn shoved over the top with {10-}{10-} before the others got out of the way. Despite staying ahead on the flop and the turn, Blenkarn lost the flip for Deeb's tournament life when the {A-Clubs} spiked on the river.

Down to 100,000, Blenkarn shipped it in the very next hand with {Q-}{J-} off-suit, but another opponent woke up with {A-}{A-}. The board ran out king-high and with that, "The Messenger" has ridden off into the sunset.

Big Gain for Gates

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Garry Gates and Nicholas Verkaik just found themselves involved in another confrontation, this one bigger and more crucial than the last.

Preflop back-and-forthing ended with Verkaik all in with {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} against Gates' {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}. The board brought five low cards -- {4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Spades} -- and Verkaik has been eliminated. Meanwhile, Gates is now stacking 659,000.

Viswanathan Binks, Flirts With 2MM

Manoj Viswanathan and Patrick Shepherd were heads-up with the board reading {3-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Viswanathan fired 150,000, Shepherd moved all in for 398,000, and Viswanathan made the call.

Viswanathan: {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}
Shepherd: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Viswanathan needed a seven or a six to win the hand, and miraculously the {6-Spades} spiked on the river to give Viswanathan a straight! Shepherd hit the rail, while Viswanathan now flirts with 2 million chips.

Diaz Doin’ Work

David Diaz
David Diaz

We heard that just before, David Diaz five-bet shoved against an opponent who folded. Diaz then showed {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a pretty sick play.

When we just checked up on him though, we saw Diaz raise to 16,000 in middle position and the next player to act made the call. Diaz then led out for 14,000 on the {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop and his opponent called. Both players checked the {6-Hearts} turn and {2-Hearts} river and Diaz turned over {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} for an ace kicker. His opponent flipped {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for nines up which was good to win the pot. Guess Diaz can’t pull off sick moves to win every hand.

Holley Holley Oxen Free

A player opened from under the gun, Tod Holley three-bet to around 40,000, and his opponent then four-bet jammed for over 300,000. Holley went into the tank briefly, then made the call.

Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Holley: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The {3-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop gave Holley's opponent four extra outs to a straight, but the turn and river both bricked {6-Diamonds}, {5-Spades} respectively. Holley's opponent hit the rail, while Holley's stack is now over a million chips.

Chop It Up For Ruthenberg

Sebastian Ruthenberg
Sebastian Ruthenberg

Sebastian Ruthenberg raised to 16,000 from the button and was called by the big blind. The flop fell {2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

"Don't pretend like you have any of that," Ruthenberg's opponent said with a laugh. He checked to Ruthenberg who bet out anyway, firing 17,000. His opponent called and the turn brought the {J-Hearts}. Both players checked and the river came {10-Spades}. His opponent bet out 27,000. Ruthenberg made the call and his opponent turned up {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a rivered pair of tens.

Ruthenberg laughed as he tabled {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a pair of tens as well. The two laughed as the dealer began to chop the pot.

"At least I had a draw!" his opponent said.

"I had a pair draw!" quipped back Ruthenberg. Ruthenberg is now sitting at 1,060,000 in chips.
