2007 WSOP Player of the Year Alive & Well

Tom Schneider, the 2007 World Series of Poker Player of the Year, was one of seven former Players of the Year to enter this event. Right now, just three remain including Allen Cunningham, Frank Kassela, and of course Schenider.

In a recent hand of Stud, the player in Seat 4 brought it in with the {3-Spades} and then called a completion from Scheider. The latter then fired bets on both the turn and fifth street, with the last bet inspiring his opponent to give up on the hand.

Schneider: (x-x) / {8-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Seat 4: (x-x) / {3-Spades}{A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

Defending Champ Doubles

Stud:

We caught the action on the turn when a player in Seat 4 check-called a bet from Aaron Steury. The action was repeated on fifth street, except the bet was Steury's last 600.

Steury: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} / {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades} / {K-Clubs}
Seat 4: {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} / {3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} / {8-Hearts}

Seat 4 needed a club on the river to eliminate the defending champ, but he couldn't catch as the {8-Hearts} blanked. Steury survived, though he is still well below average.

Williams Loses Some

Stud:

When we arrived at David Williams' table a player was busy bringing it in with a {5-Hearts} showing. A player two to his left flicked in the call with a {j-Spades} out in front of him and a flurry of cards were sent into the muck from around the table. It was then on Williams and he completed with a {j-Clubs} showing. The bring-in folded and the other player called.

Williams: (x-x) / {j-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} / (x)
Opponent: (x-x) / {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades} / (x)

Williams led on fourth and fifth street and both players checked on sixth and seventh. When Williams' opponent turned over his {10-}{10-}{j-} in the hole, Williams' cards would go into the muck and portion of his chips to his opponent.

Mercier Chipping Up

Omaha Hi-Low

Jason Mercier opened up the action and received the call from the player on the button. The dealer then readied three cards.

Flop: {j-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Mercier checked on the flop and his opponent committed the last of his chips. Mercier made the call and the two players turned their hands over.

Mercier: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Mercier was in great shape to pick up some chips and it would stay that way as the {4-Hearts} hit the turn and the {3-Hearts} landed on the river.
