Double for 2010 Player of the Year

Stud Hi/Lo:

The 2010 World Series of Poker Player of the Year, Frank Kassela, appeared to be all in from the get go in Stud Hi/Lo against Lance Mesler.

Kassela: {4-}{6-} / {2-}{10-}{9-}{4-} / {10-Spades}
Mesler: {A-}{6-} / {4-}{7-}{10-}{J-} / {4-}

Kassela managed to make two pair on seventh to secure the high, and much to his delight, Mesler failed to make a low as seventh street paired his hand. With that, Kassela scooped and doubled, though he is still quite short with 8,500.

The Devil's in the Details

Level 11

We were just standing near the former table of Jason Mercier, and Maria Mayrinck caught our eye.

"Jason (Mercier) just went out," she said.

We knew that, but we didn't know the details. Maridu did.

"It was kind a a cooler in Stud," she said. "Full house over full house."

Hence the grumpy look from Mercier on his way out the door, it seems.

MacPhee on the Rise

Stud Hi/Lo:

Kevin MacPhee just took a nice pot off the aforementioned Konstantin Puchkov. There was a pretty sizable pot in the middle of the table when we walked up to sixth street.

MacPhee: (x-x) / {7-Spades} {7-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} / (x)
Puchkov: (x-x) / {6-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {4-Spades} / (x)

MacPhee got bets in on the only two streets we saw, and Puchkov called him down. Mr. MacPhee opened up {8-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} / {7-Spades} {7-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} and declared his three sevens to take the pot.

Mayrinck Takes the High, Puchkov the Low to Eliminate Chalupneck

Stud Hi/Lo:

After action was brought in by the {3-Diamonds}, a short-stacked Adam Chaupneck completed and was met with a raise by Kevin MacPhee. Maria Mayrinck proceeded to make the call, as did Konstantin Puchkov, and Chalupneck three-bet all in. Three calls ensued and then Mayrinck led out on the turn when she paired her queen.

Puchkov and MacPhee both called, as they did when Mayrinck bet fifth. On sixth, Mayrinck fired a third time, Puchkov raised and MacPhee got out of the way. Mayrinck fired one last time on seventh, and Puchkov called.

Mayrinck: (x-x) / {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{A-Spades} / (x) ({Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Spades})
Puchkov: (x-x) / {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Hearts} / (x) ({A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Chalupneck: {6-Clubs}{3-Spades} / {7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts} / {K-Diamonds}
MacPhee: (x-x) / {7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{K-Spades}{4-Clubs} / fold

Mayrinck locked up the high with trip queens while Puchkov's 8-7-4-2-A was good for the low.
