Brecher's Set Good for a Scoop

A player in the hijack position opened to 350 and Steve Brecher called behind from the cutoff. The player in the big blind came along as well for a three-way flop.

Flop: {6-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The big blind checked to the player in the hijack, who c-bet to 550. Brecher called and the player in the big got out of the way.

The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and both players checked, however, when a {5-Diamonds} fell on the river, Brecher's opponent checked, prompting a 1,150 bet from Brecher. His opponent thought is over and reluctantly tossed in a call. Brecher revealed {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} for a set of sixes and his opponent mucked without showing.

Brecher is currently sitting on 14,500.

After some deliberation, Frankenberger three-bet to 1,225. The original raiser quickly mucked, as did the player on the button after some thought.

Frankenberger, who recently won Event 17: $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em, is up to 11,200.

Demidov Called Down

2008 Main Event Runner-Up Ivan Demidov has joined today's field, but is having a rough start.

In a recent hand, Demidov opened to 350 from early position and found a caller on the button and in the big blind.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and the player in the big checked to Demidov, who fired 700 into the middle. The player on the button got out of the way, but the big blind called.

The turn brought a {10-Spades} and Demidov's opponent again check-called, this time for 1,800.

A {9-Clubs} completed the board and the player in the big checked once more. Demidov thought it over and decided to check behind. His opponent revealed {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for just a pair of treys and Demidov mucked.

Demidov is down to 5,200 following the hand.

Dempsey Dinged by Big-Slick

The player under the gun opened to 300 and action folded all the way around to James Dempsey in the big blind, who called.

Both players checked the {J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop to see a turn, which brought the {K-Spades}. Dempsey decided to lead out for 300 and his opponent called. Both players again checked the {J-Clubs} river and Dempsey's opponent revealed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} for kings and jacks. Dempsey mucked and his opponent scooped the pot.

Dempsey has had a decent level, nevertheless, as he is currently sitting on 10,500. Dempsey recently made a deep run in event #35: $2,500 Mixed Hold'em just a couple days ago, where he finished in 11th place for $12,964.

Heinz Slips

We caught up with the action on a board reading {4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}, where Pius Heinz was heads-up against a lone opponent. Heinz's opponent checked to Heinz, who was directly behind him in middle position. Heinz fired 1,100 and, after some deliberation, his opponent check-raised to 2,300. Heinz counted out his stack with a puzzled look on his face, but eventually decided to give it up and fold.

Heinz is down to 7,000 following the hit.
