November Niners Collide; Nguyen Eliminated

Soi Nguyen
Soi Nguyen

Soi Nguyen's tumultuous day on the felt has come to an end. The 2010 November was just eliminated by 2008 November Niner Ivan Demidov. Nguyen was all in preflop with {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} against Demidov's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, and the board rolled out {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds} to send Nguyen to the rail.

Demidov, meanwhile, has cashed in his first event in the World Series of Poker since 2009 when he min-cashed a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event for $2,808. His two WSOP cashes before that were for a combined $6.4 million — he took third place at the WSOP Europe Main Event ($608,995) and second in the WSOP Main Event ($5,809,595).

Nguyen Crippled....Again

Soi Nguyen suffered a massive blow to his stack earlier today, but had since managed to work his stack all the way back up to over 100,000.

It just isn't Nguyen's day, it seems.

We caught up with Nguyen in a recent hand where he was in a three-way all in pot. Nguyen had his two opponents covered and hands were revealed.

Nguyen: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Opponent #1: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Opponent #2: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs} and the player with pocket tens scooped the pot with his set.

"I'm embarrassed by that," Nguyen's opponent said.

Nguyen is back down to just 18,000.

Iacofano Takes a Hit

Kevin Iacofano just lost about a third of his stack after finishing second best in a three-way all-in. Iacofano had {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} against {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and {J-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, but the {J-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{A-Clubs} board gave a pot worth around 70,000 chips to the player in Seat 3. Iacofano was left with around 49,000, good for 20 big blinds.

Double for Reed

Michael Reed
Michael Reed

Amnon Filippi opened for 5,200 from middle position, then Michael Reed reraise-shoved for about 26,000 from the blinds, and Filippi called right away.

Filippi: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Reed: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The flop came {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{2-Spades}, then the turn brought the {K-Hearts}. "King or ace," said Filippi, noting an extra way he could win. But the river was the {8-Spades}, and Reed survives.

Petersen Picks One Off With Rockets

Mickey Petersen
Mickey Petersen

The player under-the-gun opened to 5,100 and action folded around to another player in middle position, who pushed all in for his last 31,000. Behind him in the cutoff, Mickey Petersen asked for a count and announced he was also all in. Everyone else got out of the way and hands were revealed.

Peterson: {A-}{A-}
Opponent: {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

The {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades} board was too little too late for Peterson's opponent and he was sent to the rail.

Petersen is up to approximately 140,000.
