"I Can Raise, Right?"

When we reached Table 401, the board had already been completed {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. Frederic Banjout checked, and Sam Trickett fired 340,000. Banjout thought for a moment, then asked the dealer, "I can raise, right?"

The dealer told him, "Yes."

Banjout reached for lavender T100,000 chips with one hand, and orange T5,000 chips with another, and check-raised to 940,000. Trickett was visibly upset.

"Wow," he blurted. "Can I speak?"

The dealer said that he was allowed to speak, but that Banjout wasn't. WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel was called over to confirm the heads-up talking rules, and after he left, Trickett asked Banjout, "Do you have {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} exactly? Do you speak english?"

Banjout simply took a swig from his Pepsi and smiled.

"You checked so quickly on the river," Trickett muttered. "This is a pretty big pot for this stage of the tournament."

Trickett eventually made the call, and Banjout tabled {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} for a straight. Trickett tabled {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the same straight, and the 2 million-chip pot was chopped.

"You were calling the whole time!" Andrew Robl jabbed.

"Yeah," Trickett admitted, chuckling. "I'm just setting you up for when you try and get me off of a straight."

Big Raise from Phua on the River

With around 100,000 in the pot on a flop of {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, Paul Phua bet out 50,000 only to have Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi raise to 105,000. Phua went to make the call, but he accidentally put out too many chips, which constituted a min-raise to 160,000. Miazrachi tried to take advantage by four-betting to 305,000, but Phua paid to see the {6-Diamonds}.

Both players opted to slow down with a check, and Phua did the same on the {9-Clubs} river. Mizrachi took the opportunity to bet 350,000, and Phua asked the dealer to spread the pot. He thought for about a minute before announcing a raise and making it 1.1 million more to go.

The Grinder didn't seem too enthused and released his hand after a thinking it over for about 20 seconds.

ElkY Pressures Shakerchi

After Talal Shakerchi opened for 14,000 from early position, he received three callers and it was four-way action to the {3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier was first to act in the small blind and checked, opening the door for Shakerchi to bet 42,000.

Noah Schwartz then raised to 93,000 from middle position, Paul Newey folded from the cutoff, and Grospellier woke up with a check-raise to 244,000. Shakerchi made a relatively quick call and Schwartz decided to get out of the way.

When the {K-Hearts} appeared on the turn, Grospellier slid out a bet of 444,000. Again Shakerchi wasted little time in making the call, bringing about the {9-Clubs} river. The Frenchman refused to slow down and came out with a hefty 777,000 bet, one that gave Shakerchi pause. The latter thought for a solid four minutes, knowing a call would cost half his remaining stack, but he ultimately laid it down.

Dwan's Queens Go Down

During the last level, Mikhail Smirnov opened to 15,000 from under the gun and John Morgan three-bet to 40,000 from the next seat. Action then folded all the way around to Tom Dwan in the small blind and he came in with an aggressive four-bet to 145,000. Smirnov folded before Morgan quickly called.

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Dwan checked. Morgan bet 150,000 and Dwan made the call.

On the {K-Clubs} turn, both players checked. They also checked the {8-Spades} on the river to get to a showdown.

Dwan showed the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, but his ladies were no good against the {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} for Morgan.

Phua Takes One Million-Chip Pot off of Negreanu

In one of the last hands of the previous level, Paul Phua opened to 15,000 from early position, and was called by Michael Mizrachi, Mike Sexton, Daniel Negreanu (button), Rick Salomon, and Chamath Palihapitiya. The dealer fanned {4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}, and the action checked to Phua, who fired 65,000. Mizrachi and Sexton both folded, and Negreanu raised to 200,000. Both blinds released, and Phua tank-called.

Both players checked after the {q-Spades} turned, and the {8-Diamonds} completed the board. Phua led for 300,000, and Negreanu thought for a bit, then called.

"Flush," Phua announced, tabling {k-Spades}{j-Spades}.

Negreanu mucked, and Phua raked in the pot.
