Pires Busts Chan

Joao Pires opened the action with a raise to 800 and Vanessa Rousso called from the button. It folded to Terrence Chan in the big blind and he three-bet to 3,100. Pires would not be bullied, however, as he four-bet to 8,100. Rousso shot her hand to the muck quite quickly and action was back on Chan.

Chan counted all of his chips before five-betting all in. Pires snap called and the hands were shown:

Chan: {A-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Pires: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades} and Chan was unable to improve, sending him to the rail and boosting Pires' stack to 108,000.

Marafioti Knocks Out Adeniya

On a {2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop the action was checked to Martins Adeniya who bet 1,500 from the button. Matt Marafioti decided to raise it up to 3,750 and the third player folded. Adeniya tanked for a bit, and called.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and Marafioti bet 10,000, which was almost enough to put his opponent all in. Adeniya pushed for 13,000 and Marafioti snap-called with {J-Spades}{8-Spades}. Adeniya turned over {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}, and the river was the {7-Hearts}.

Adeniya was eliminated and Marafioti is back up to over the starting stack.

Maimone In Control

Nick Maimone is still stacking a massive pile of chips after picking off a bluff from Igor Kurganov moments ago.

We caught up with the two staring at a board of {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and Maimone had checked over to Kurganov, who pushed his remaining 18,000 chips in the middle. Maimone took little time to make the call and he flipped over {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}. Kurganov tossed his hand into the muck, but per WSOP rules the dealer had to reveal his {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

Kurganov made his way to the rail, and Maimone is now our leader with around 140,000.

Duhamel Takes Some From Grafton

We caught up to see the board reading {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} with over 7,000 in the pot. Sam Grafton checked to 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel who fired 4,650 into the center. Grafton called quickly and the {7-Clubs} fell on the river.

Grafton checked once more and Duhamel tossed out two orange t5,000 chips announcing a bet of 8,450. It was at this point that Grafton went into the tank. Grafton thought for over two minutes before throwing away his cards, allowing Duhamel to grab the pot.

Max Value For Phillips

We just found Carter Phillips over in the Bronze section, and he was looking very sharp with a 80,000-chip stack in front of him. Phillip is the owner of two World Series of Poker bracelet, one of which he won this year in a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. Phillips told us a hand he won in the 75/150 level, and he wasn't joking about it being interesting.

After two limpers the action was on Phillips who raised to 800 from the cutoff with pocket aces. JC Tran was on the button and he three-bet to 2,200. The other players folded, and it was back on Phillips who made it 5,300 to go. Tran put in a five-bet to 8,600, and the pressure was back on Phillips. He went for the six-bet, and put in 12,600.

Tran decided to make the call, and the flop brought out {10-}{8-}{3-}. Phillips said he moved all in, and Tran made the call with {a-}{8-} off suit. Phillips' hand held up and he doubled up early on. Right now he's sitting on 80,000 chips and that gives him one of the top stacks in the room.
