Trips For Cada

We found 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Cada heads up in a pot looking down at a board of {8-Clubs}{2-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{J-Spades}. With over 8,000 in the pot, Cada bet out 4,500.

Cada's opponent quickly called but mucked his hand when Cada tabled {Q-Spades}{j-Clubs} for trip jacks. Cada recently took his seat and has already built his stack to 47,000.

Haralabos Voulgaris is not Scared

Haralabos Voulgaris played the Big One for One Drop, but unfortunately didn't end up making the final table. Today he's back at it, and before the break he got moved to Jason Mercier and Vicky Coren's table. We just saw Voulgaris rake in a very interesting pot.

Voulgaris raised from the cutoff to 700, and the player on the button three-bet to 1,800. Both blinds folded and Voulgaris four-bet to 3,500, his opponent called.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Clubs} and Voulgaris bet 4,300. The player on the button tanked for a bit, and called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Voulgaris checked. The button fired out 5,900, and Voulgaris tanked before making the call.

On the river the {8-Hearts} hit, and both players checked. Voulgaris turned over {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and his opponent produced a wry smile as he mucked his cards.

Seidel Tries to Bully Short Stack

A short-stacked player in the cutoff raised to 650 and Erik Seidel called from the big blind. The flop was {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Seidel checked. His opponent tossed out a continuation bet of 650 and Seidel opted to raise to 1,800. His opponent called and the two saw the {5-Spades} hit on fourth.

Seidel tried to take control of the hand here by betting 2,800 but found his opponent move all in for 5,075 total. Seidel quickly tossed away his hand and his opponent was awarded the pot. Seidel is currently sitting a little above starting stack with 34,000.

Cazals Applies Pressure

With around 14,000 chips in the middle preflop, Aubin Cazals and another player saw a flop of {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Action was checked over to Cazals, who bet 6,000. His opponent called and then checked again when the {6-Diamonds} landed on the turn. Cazals calmly combined his remaining 18,000 chips into two stacks and pushed them into the middle. That was enough to get the other player off the hand, and Cazals increased his stack to around 46,000 without seeing a showdown.

Voulgaris and Mercier Tangle

We caught up to find Jason Mercier and Haralabos Voulgaris looking at {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} in a raised pot. Mercier tossed out a bet of 1,650 on the flop.

"Are you allowed to bet less than you raised to preflop?" Voulgaris joked. Mercier had his headphones on, however, and was oblivious to Voulgaris' joke. Voulgaris decided to raise to 5,000 straight and Mercier called.

The {5-Clubs} dropped down on the turn and Mercier tapped the table. Voulgaris bet 7,000 and Mercier flung his hand at the muck allowing Voulgaris to pick up the pot.

Max Value For Phillips

We just found Carter Phillips over in the Bronze section, and he was looking very sharp with a 80,000-chip stack in front of him. Phillip is the owner of two World Series of Poker bracelet, one of which he won this year in a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. Phillips told us a hand he won in the 75/150 level, and he wasn't joking about it being interesting.

After two limpers the action was on Phillips who raised to 800 from the cutoff with pocket aces. JC Tran was on the button and he three-bet to 2,200. The other players folded, and it was back on Phillips who made it 5,300 to go. Tran put in a five-bet to 8,600, and the pressure was back on Phillips. He went for the six-bet, and put in 12,600.

Tran decided to make the call, and the flop brought out {10-}{8-}{3-}. Phillips said he moved all in, and Tran made the call with {a-}{8-} off suit. Phillips' hand held up and he doubled up early on. Right now he's sitting on 80,000 chips and that gives him one of the top stacks in the room.
