Busted Bellande

Jean-Robert Bellande
Jean-Robert Bellande

We don't know exactly what the action was, but we do know when we got to table #12 Jean-Robert Bellande was all in against Shannon Shorr. Bellande held {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} while Shorr possessed {K-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}.

A {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{A-Hearts} looked to be just want Bellande wanted, but a {K-Hearts} on the turn caused Bellande to lose the lead in the hand. Bellande called for a fifth heart to hit the board and force a chop, but instead received the {J-Spades} causing Shorr to hit two pair and the winning hand. Bellande wished all good luck in the tournament and graciously made his exit.

Negreanu Two Tabling

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

It has just come to our attention that Daniel Negreanu is in this event. It took us this long to realize this because currently he is making a deep run in Event 5: $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em. Negreanu who is one of the top ten chip stacks in that tournament has been putting most of his effort their, only coming over to play here during his short breaks. With about 16,500 in chips in this mixed max event, Negreanu is one of the shorter stacks.

Mercier is Gone; Table of Death Loses Its Flavor

Jason Mercier just couldn't get going today
Jason Mercier just couldn't get going today

The table of death is no more. It was fun while it lasted but the superstars of poker have eradicated themselves like human beings like to do from time to time. The latest casualty is Jason Mercier who has been card dead all day long. He eventually found {9-Clubs} {9-Hearts} and it went into the middle against the {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} of his opponent and he was out. That left Phil Ivey and Yevgeniy Timoshenko as the two superstar names left on the tables hence the removal of the death tag.

Wait…there's hope! Dan Smith has just taken the place of Jason Mercier and the table of death is back on.

Goodbye Ivey

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

We weren't able to see what happened, but after watching Ivey scamper away from the tournament with no more chips in front of his seat we know that he was eliminated. After a little digging we found out that he got all in preflop with {9-}{9-} against an opponent who held {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

A {4-}{2-Clubs}{A-} flop basically shut the door on Ivey's tournament life, unless the case nine could make an appearance on the turn or the river. That didn't happen as a {8-Clubs} and a {2-Spades} rolled off respectively.

Pantling Panting

Andrew Pantling went about his business in fine fashion in the early levels of this tournament. He amassed a stack that could have done plenty of damage, but he has just been reduced to one of the smallest stacks in the room.

We caught him in all-in action, and favourite to increase his stack, when he held {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} against his opponents {8-Spades} {8-Clubs}. He was almost home and dry on a board of {3-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} and then the cruel {8-Hearts} hit the river to reduce him to around 5,000 in chips.

Inizan and Froehlich Clash

Marc Inizan
Marc Inizan

In 2010, Marc Inizan made the final table of the WSOPE Main Event in London where he finished in 9th place for $107,609. He is a very aggressive player from France and highly respected amongst his peers. He has had one of the largest stacks in the room, all-day, but Eric Froehlich has just taken a substantial amount of them as we approach the business end of the day.

Inizan raised to 1,200 in early position, Eric Froehlich three-bet to 3,425 in the hijack, Inizan four-bet to 6,800, Froehlich moved all-in for around 25,000 and Inizan made the call.

Froehlich{Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}
Inizan{9-Spades} {9-Hearts}

Board: {6-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}

Froehlich moved up to 56,000 and Inizan was pegged back to 63,000.

Back to Back Aces and Crowe is Out! Rettenmaier Flying!

Marvin Rettenmaier is in the middle of a heater
Marvin Rettenmaier is in the middle of a heater

When we arrived at the table there were chips everywhere. Former November Niner Jason Senti was walking out of the door and just in front of his empty table space lay {4-Spades} {4-Clubs}, Marvin Rettenmaier had a cheeky "it wasn't me" grin on his face and {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} in front of him, the board was showing {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} and the man passing the German the majority of his chips was Owen Crowe.

"I had pocket aces," said Crowe.

After a chinwag with some of the players we understand that Senti open shoved with the fours, Rettenmaier three-bet with the ace-king, Crowe four-bet with the aces, Rettenmaier moved all-in and Crowe called.

Crowe was left with a sour looking face and just a few thousand chips while Rettenmaier had moved up to 168,000.

Then in the very next hand Crowe picked up pocket aces once again. He moved all-in and was called by a player holding pocket tens and yes you've guessed it, the pocket tens hit a straight to eliminate the unfortunate Crowe.
