Galfond Grabs Another

Action began with the under-the-gun player open limping. The player directly behind him also limped and it was folded around to the small blind, who completed. Phil Galfond checked his option from the big for a four-handed pot.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Galfond took the initiative by leading out for 4,200. The original limper folded, however, the second limper called. The player in the small also folded, which meant it was heads-up going to the turn.

The turn brought the {A-Clubs} and Galfond deliberated a bit before pushing out a bet of 10,300 into the middle. His last remaining opponent quickly folded and Galfond scooped the pot.

Galfond is sitting on 250,000.

Shulman Out

Jeff Shulman open-raised all in for just under 18,000 from early position, and it folded back around to Dane Lomas in the big blind. Lomas considered for about a half-minute, then called the raise, turning over {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Shulman showed {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

The flop came {3-Spades}{J-Hearts}{A-Clubs}, and suddenly Shulman was way behind. The turn was the {2-Clubs} and river the {8-Hearts}, and Shulman was eliminated.

Mercier checked his cards on last time, then tossed them into the muck

Tough Level for Juanda

Five-time bracelet winner John Juanda best ever Main Event finish was 31st place in 2005. Juanda started today with an above average stack, but Level 11 hasn't been too good to him, meaning he has a steep hill to climb to equal or exceed his previous best in the ME.

Just now we caught a hand involving Juanda that had reached the turn with the board showing {K-Spades}{5-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Juanda firing a bet of 14,500. His opponent called, then the river brought the {J-Spades}. Juanda bet 28,800 this time, and his opponent raised all in for 168,000 — well over what Juanda had left.

Juanda tanked for four whole minutes before finally letting hand go and preserving his now shortened stack.

Hastings Hits A Double Up

It's been a rough day for 2012 bracelet winner Brian Hastings so far. He came into today with 167,000, but tweeted earlier that he lost a 160k pot when his queens lost to his opponent's jacks.

Well he was knocked down all the way to 25,000, but we just caught him doubling up through Scott Blackman. The two players got the chip in preflop with Blackman holding {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Hastings showed {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, and the flop was a dream for him, coming {8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Blackman would have to catch the {3-Spades} to win the pot, but the dealer didn't bringing any miracles, as the board completed {4-Diamonds} and {j-Spades}.

After that double up, Hastings is back up to 52,000.

Barron Doubles To Survive

A player in middle position opened for 4,000 and was called by the player on the button. NBA player Earl Barron then moved all in for his last 22,000 from the small blind. Both the big blind and the original raiser folded, however, the player on the button called and hands were revealed.

Barron: {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}

The {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} board left Barron with a pair of jacks for the scoop and he more than doubled up to 50,000.

Ryan Daniel Doubles Through Peltekci On Feature

Over in the ESPN Mothership, we found Daniel Negreanu open the action to 3,600 from under the gun plus one. Ryan Daniel opted to make it 7,500 from the next seat over and was flat called by Robert Peltekci. Action folded back to Negreanu and he flung out a call, taking three players to the flop.

A flop of {2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} was spread out in front of the three players. Negreanu checked and Daniel continued out for 15,000. Peltekci snap-raised the action to 35,000 and Negreanu folded his cards.

Daniel announced that he was all in for a total of 73,200. Peltekci thought for a moment before calling the 38,200 more. Peltekci tabled {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} but was disappointed to find he was behind the set of sevens from Daniel's {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

The board finished with the {2-Clubs} on the turn and {10-Clubs} on the river, giving Daniel sevens full of tens and the best hand.
