Mercier Eliminated and Off to Stud

Jason Mercier (Day 1a)
Jason Mercier (Day 1a)

From middle position, Jason Mercier raised all in for his last 4,500. Action folded to the player in the small blind and he reraised to 9,000. Everyone else folded and Mercier was at risk with the {Q-Spades}{8-Hearts} versus his opponent's {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

After a board of {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} gave no help to Mercier, he was off and running over to Event 9: $5,000 Seven Card Stud. He didn't even collect his payout ticket, but will get his money later.

Bolek Eliminated

Action folded to Vassil Kakaradov on the button and he raised to 3,300. Christopher Bolek reraised all in from the small blind for around 26,000. Kakaradov called.

Kakaradov: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Bolek: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The flop, turn and river ran out {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Bolek was eliminated.

Chan Goes Home; Olisar Soaring

"I have a little less than $50K," said Terrence Chan to Ryan Olisar before Olisar threw in a three-bet to 8,500. Chan had opened the pot to 3,600 and now it was back on him to act.

After quite some time Chan announced he was all in and Olisar snapped him off as the two players turned their hands over.

Chan: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Olisar: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

When the [asjs5j] flop hit the felt, Chan started gathering his belongings and wished the table good luck. The turn and river bricked out and Chan continued making his way out of the tournament area. A quick look on Twitter tells us that he will be registering for the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event almost immediately.

Juanda Doing Great

John Juanda
John Juanda

John Juanda is continuing his rise to the top of the counts that started during yesterday's Day 1 flight. We recently caught Juanda picking up another pot when he and an opponent checked it down on the river of a board showing {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs}. There was well over 20,000 already in the pot at this point and when Juanda turned over {5-Spades}{4-Spades}, it was enough to see his opponent's cards hit the muck.

"Would you have folded if i bet?" the player asked.

"The river was a good card for me," replied Juanda, stacking his new chips.

Haxton Loses Race For Tournament Life

We caught up with the action just as the dealer was scooping all of the cards in. It appeared that Isaac "Ike" Haxton found himself all in for his remaining chips with {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} against a lone opponent's {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

The board ran out dry for Haxton and he was sent to the rail.

Rast Charging

Brian Rast
Brian Rast

Last year, Brian Rast won two World Series of Poker gold bracelets. He's charging up the counts here in Event 9 and now has 134,000 in chips thanks to a recent pot where he flopped a set of deuces against Christopher Bolek.

We picked up the action on the {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Clubs} board as Rast checked to Bolek. Bolek fired 4,200 and Rast put in a check-raise to 15,200. After a minute in the tank, Bolek called.

The river completed the board with the {8-Clubs} and brought in a backdoor flush draw. Rast led for 16,500. Bolek made the call and Rast tabled the {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} for a set of twos. Bolek mucked and Rast won the pot.

Last year, Rast first one Event 15: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em for nearly $230,000. He then won the prestigious Event 55: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship for over $1.7 million after defeating Phil Hellmuth heads up. Needless to say, Rast has got some game and he's showing it here on Day 2 as he builds up a mountain of chips.

Also of note is that Rast is doing his moving on Day 2 with both Jonathan Duhamel and Jason Mercier at his table. Mercier has direct position on Rast and the table is one of the tougher ones in the room.
