The First Pot-Limit Hold'em Tournament Begins Today

In about an hour the first Pot-Limit Hold'em tournament of the 2013 World Series of Poker begins. They already played Pot-Limit Omaha in event 8 ($2,500 Eight-Game Mix) but other than that, this is the first pot-limit tournament of the series. So no antes today and way fewer preflop all ins.

The pot-limit variant traditionally attracts smaller fields than no-limit hold'em tournaments, but in general that means there are more recognizable faces. A smaller field means a higher chance for a bracelet and that attracts the sharks.

All players will begin with 4,500 in tournament chips. We'll be playing 10 sixty minute levels today, with a 90 minute dinner break after level 6. We're starting at noon so get ready for pot-limit hold'em action in an hour.

The 25 chips will be colored up in the dinner break. 'make it' tells the amount you can make it with no action before you and just both blinds in the pot.

Players are filtering into the Brasilia Room as announcements are being made prior to the start of Event #12. According to his latest tweet, Eric Baldwin, coming off a 7-hour heads up match and 2nd place finish in Event #7, will be joining the event today. It is just another day at the office for Baldwin. Table 16 in the Gold section of the Brasilia Room had four players on it at the moment. We know all four of them which is never a good sign for them. Is it to early to say "Table of Death"?

Annette Obrestad raised to 50 from under the gun and a middle position player made it 175. Obrestad called and a flop of was dealt.

Obrestad checked to her opponent, who continued with a bet of 200. Obrestad raised to 575 and her opponent called.

Obrestad led for 975 on the turn and got a call. The river prompted an all in Obrestad and after some thought, her opponent made the call. Obrestad showed and her opponent's cards hit the muck.
