Event #34: $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Hold’em began today with 1,629 players and true to its “turbo” format, the tournament lost 1,594 players at a record pace to end the day with just 35 players and well into the money.

After 17 levels of play, the first four of which were 30-minutes long and the remaining thirteen were 40-minutes, it appeared that Victor Figueroa (354,000) has the largest stack in the room. Some of the other top stacks included: Noah Vaillancourt (301,000), Michael Gathy (256,000) and Mikk Matiiesen (255,00). You can also find Jason Duval (193,000), Jake Cody (190,000), Jennifer Tilly (113,000) and Russell Crane (100,00) still in the field with respectable stacks. Duval is on the hunt for his second bracelet within a week.

Some of the notable players falling victim early in the day included three former Main Event Champions Joe Cada, Greg Raymer and Jonathan Duhamel. Additionally, we saw Maria Ho, David Williams, Erik Seidel and Alan Cunnigham hit the rail during the day. The tournament payed 171 players and plenty of notables including: Antonio Esfandiari (139th), David Peters (132nd), Eric Crain (98th), Shannon Shorr (95th), Melanie Weisner (93rd) and DJ MacKinnon (91st) made the money but won’t be fortunate to be coming back for day two.

The word on the floor was that the players liked this format, with faster levels on Day 1 and full sixty-minute levels on Day 2. They will be back on the felt tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Amazon Room and will be playing until a champion is crowned and the first-place prize of $278,613 and the bracelet is awarded. Keep it here, on PokerNews, for the live updates from the tournament floor.

Seven (Yes, Seven) More Hands

The tournament staff has announced that each table will play out seven more hands before calling it quits for the evening.

"Seven?!?! Seven more hands?!?!" exclaimed Aaron Massey.

"Your table drew the number, Aaron," responded the tournament director.

Charette Busts One

donpeters • Level 17: 2,000-4,000, 500 ante

From early position, Simon Charette raised to 8,000. Victor Figueroa called from the cutoff seat, and the small blind called as well before seeing the {K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop. The small blind moved all in for 54,500, Charette re-shoved all in, and Figueroa folded.

Charette tabled the {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and was crushing his opponent's {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. We all know how poker is, though, and the turn card brought a nice sweat with the {6-Clubs} giving the at-risk player a flush draw. The river {10-Diamonds} kept Charette clear of the suckout and he was able to win the hand to send his opponent to the rail.

Duval Forced To Fold

pokerblogette • Level 17: 2,000-4,000, 500 ante

The {5-Spades}{4-Spades}{q-Spades} flop was on the board when Jason Duval bet 12,000 and found a call from the player in the hijack seat.

Duval led for 24,000 on the {k-Spades} turn and the hijack called. Duval kept control by betting 32,000 on the {10-Clubs} river. Instead of calling, the hijack moved all in forcing Duval to fold.

Kruger Busts Brady and Another

donpeters • Level 17: 2,000-4,000, 500 ante

Action folded to the player on the button, and he moved all in. Russ Krueger went all in from the small blind, and then Matt Brady called all in from the big blind. The button held the {J-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Krueger had the {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, and Brady had the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}. Krueger had both of his opponents covered.

The board ran out {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and Krueger won the pot to bust both players. He now has 153,000 in chips.

Gathy Eliminates Himatsingka In Dramatic Fashion

pokerblogette • Level 17: 2,000-4,000, 500 ante

We came to the action with the board reading {5-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. There was 17,000 bet in front of Michael Gathy and Devvrat Himatsingka had the the all in button in front of him. Gathy was faced with a difficult decision with one card to come.

He made the call and tabled {q-Clubs}{8-Spades} for a pair of eights. Himatsingka was in the lead with {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a pair of kings and flush draw. The {q-Spades} river gave Gathy two pair and eliminated Himatsingka, who had a large stack for most of the day.
