Fielder Kings Get a Double

Level 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

Jeff Fielder woke up with {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} under the gun. He only had 1,950 in his stack and they went all in. Fielder needed a double to get back to the starting stack. He feared no one would call as player after player folded. It was down to the big blind and Fielder lighted up when he saw the big blind call. The big blind with a premium hand himself had {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

Fielder loved his chances and was happy to see the board run smooth with {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Fielder would move back to 4,000 after the hand and he hopes to find some more big pairs coming soon.

Schneider Doubles

Level 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

We arrived at the table on the flop as Lee Childs, who final tabled the WSOP Main Event in 2007, was involved in a hand against Tom Schneider, who recently won his third and fourth bracelets.

With the board reading {2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, Childs bet out from the small blind position for 1125, and Schneider called. The turn was the {8-Diamonds}, and Childs pushed forward a stack of T1,000 chips, enough to put Scheider all in if he called. Schneider went into the tank for a couple minutes. He eventually called and turned over {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a pair of fours. He was ahead of Childs's {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}, but Childs had a lot of outs as any club, ace, or jack would win the pot for him. Unfortunately for Childs, the river was the {9-Hearts}, and Schneider doubled up.

Tilly Gets Two Outed

Level 4 : 75/150, 0 ante
Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly

We were away for the initial action but we heard a loud commotion coming from Jennifer Tilly's table.

What we learned was that Tilly had {3-Spades}{3-Hearts} and got all her money in against a player's {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} on a board of {3-Clubs}{6-Spades}{k-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Tilly was in great shape to double and be one of the chip leaders in the tournament. Undoubtedly the unbelievable {a-Spades} came on the river to give Tilly's opponent the incredible two out suckout.

Tilly's chips were counted and her opponent had her barely covered. Tilly packed up her things and she was sent away to swallow the bad beat.

Ivey Here and Gone

Phil Ivey Plays in Event #39
Phil Ivey Plays in Event #39

Phil Ivey late-registered for this event, but his presence in the Brasilia Room was short-lived. According to his former tablemates, he shoved all-in from under the gun with {a-}{10-} and ran into {a-}{k-}. Ivey is still alive in Event #39: $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better and it appears he came here while that tournament was on break to double-table.

Pavilion Bound

Level 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

The action is going so fast in this $1500 event that tables are breaking fast. We started this tournament using all three rooms and we are getting close to breaking all of the Amazon. There are less than 15 tables left and all the players are instructed to put there chips in bags and move together in a unit into the Pavilion. There they will have the same dealers and same table. Not to long from now everyone will be under the same roof in the Brasilia. There they will be charging forth in their efforts to make day 2.

By the Book

Noted poker author David Sklansky recently doubled up. He raised to 300 preflop, and only the big blind called. He continued for another 300 when the flop fell {9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, and his opponent called again. The turn was the {7-Hearts}, and Sklansky bet out for 700. This time his opponent raised to 1,700, and Sklansky quickly moved all in for 4,475 total. His opponent didn't seem pleased with that development, and went into the tank for a minute before electing to call. Sklansky turned over {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} for a flopped set, and he was up against {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for a pair and a straight draw. The river was the {6-Hearts}, which kept Sklansky in the lead, and he took the pot.
