Truong vs. Conley

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

In one of the last hands before the level went up, action folded to Tam Truong on the button and he put in a standard raise. Justin Conley then moved all in from the small blind for 37,500, the big folded and Truong made a hesitant call.

Truong: {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Conley: {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

Conley got it in good but Truong was drawing to two live cards. The {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop contained one of those cards and gave Truong the lead with a pair of queens. The {8-Hearts} turn was no help to Conley, and he needed an ace on the river to stay alive. The dealer burned and put out the {2-Hearts}, the last card Conley would see here in Event #40: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

Hamby Finds His Double

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jared Hamby, undoubtedly still a bit frustrated from that last hand we wrote about, just found his much needed double-up. A player in middle position had opened to 6,000 and from the small blind Hamby had pushed for 39,000. After some thinking his opponent made the cal and Hamby proudly tabled {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. His opponent had {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and even hit a jack on the flop, but would not improve beyond that: {J-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts} | {4-Diamonds} | {5-Hearts}.

More Payouts

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The payouts are now updated through the player in 79th place, Wen Lin.

Hamby Unlucky

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jared Hamby, who had just successfully 3-betted Andrew Lichtenberger the last hand, opened under-the-gun plus one to 7,000. The big blind made the call and the dealer brought out the first three community cards: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. The big blind shoved all in for a little over 50,000 and Hamby, with some doubt in his voice, made the call almost immediately.

Hamby was in good shape with his {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} since the big blind showed up with {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. The {A-Hearts} on the turn was a safe card for Hamby but the {K-Spades} on the river was not. He shook his head a couple of times, counting out the chips he owed in the mean time.

Dorneles Neto Gets a KO

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The player under the gun +1 moved all in for his last 40,500, and Joao Dorneles Neto was next to act. He announced call, and save for a couple players who thought momentarily, everyone folded rather quickly.

Dorneles Neto: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Dorneles Neto had the best hand he could hope for against his opponent, but he would have to dodge some outs after the flop came down {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. A ten would give his opponnt a straight, but hte board ran down nines, coming the {9-Diamonds}, and the {9-Hearts}. After winning that hand, Dorneles Neto is back up to 250,000.

Gates and Scott Dance

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Kara Scott
Kara Scott

From under the gun, Garry Gates opened with a raise to 6,000. Action folded around the Kara Scott in the small blind, and she put in a reraise to 15,000. After the big blind folded, Gates sized up Scott's stack, then made the call to take a flop in position.

On the {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} flop, Scott checked quickly. Gates reached for chips and tossed out a bet of 15,000. Scott made the call.

The turn was the {8-Spades}, and both players checked to see the {9-Diamonds} land on the river. Slowly, Scott began to count out a bet, positioning a couple of towers from her stack. Just as she was about to slide her bet forward, Gates tossed his cards into the muck and said, "Nice hand."

Scott collected the pot and moved to 180,000, while Gates was knocked back a little to 146,000.

Short Stack Wiggling

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The player under-the-gun opened to 6,500 and a couple positions in Belgian player Bart Lybaert made it 11,500 to go. The other players, including the blinds, folded and the initial-raiser made the call. {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts} on the flop and under-the-gun check-called a 7,500 bet. Both players checked the {7-Diamonds} on the turn and the {2-Clubs} completed the board. The under-the-gun player bet out 15,500 and Lybaert folded after some thinking.

Joao Dornelesneto opened the hijack to 6,500 and received a call from his neighbor on the button. Marc-Andre Ladouceur squeezed all in from the small blind for 39,000 total. The big blind gave up his chips and so did Dornelesneto. The player on the button thought about it and eventually said: "Yeah, I'm going to call you". Ladouceur tabled {A-Spades}{K-Spades} and was up against {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. "Oh nice hand. I set you up for the squeeze but you found a real nice hand" the player on the button said.

The flop was still good for Ladouceur: {8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. He could feel the bad news coming though. Ladouceur predicted a six on the turn, which would give his opponent an open-ended, but in fact the {7-Spades} would pop up giving the button a pair. Ladouceur could still hit a king or spade for the double up but he would fail on that mission. The {2-Diamonds} on the river was a complete blank and Ladouceur made his way to the exit in 83th place.
