Idema Busts

Daniel Idema (during Event #39)

We just spotted Daniel Idema raise for around 8,000 in chips, leaving himself with one 100-chip behind. Adam Stone then opted to raise all in for 22,700, before Paul Lieu looked like he wanted to get involved as well. He thought about his decision for over a minute, before making the call, as everyone else folded back around to Idema, who committed his last chip.

Idema: {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Stone: {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Lieu: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

“Well that’s going to make it tough for me,” said Idema, as the flop came out {3-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, giving Stone top-two pair. The board ran out the {2-Clubs} and {9-Diamonds} to see Stone more than double up, as Idema was sent to the rail.

This was Idema’s fifth cash in this year’s WSOP, adding to an already dominant summer that saw him collect a second WSOP bracelet in Event #39 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo.

Aaron Massey Returns to the WSOP Stage With His Dream in Reach

Level 15 : 0/0, 1,500 ante
Aaron Massey Here on Day 2
Aaron Massey Here on Day 2

Two years ago Aaron Massey made the transition from small-stakes circuit grinder to accomplished pro, making his big splash with a final table appearance here at the World Series of Poker. Massey’s irrepressible charm, impeccable style, and genuine enthusiasm for the game were evident throughout his deep run in Event #45 ($1,000 No-Limit Hold’em). Although he did not accomplish his dream of winning a gold bracelet on that day, Massey put the poker world on notice that his star would continue to rise.

Just over a year later, Massey’s passionate pursuit of poker glory paid dividends in a big way, as won the WinStar World Casino River Poker Series Main Event, scoring $651,559 and the validation he has been seeking since that final table appearance here in Las Vegas.

With his fourth cash of the 2013 WSOP secured here in the ante-only event, Massey has worked his way to the final three tables, and he will be looking to best his 8th place finish on the WSOP stage.

“I’ve just worked so hard for this, put everything I have into this poker thing,” Massey told us while bagging and tagging last night. “My dreams are finally starting to become reality, and it just feels very satisfying after all of the energy I’ve dedicated to the game.”

With just two dozen or so players standing between Massey and the goal he has focused on for years, there is no doubt he will be a force to be reckoned with as Day 2 of this event marches on.

A short-stacked Allen Cunningham opened the pot, before he was met with a raise from Adam Stone. The action folded back around to Cunningham, who moved all in for his remaining chips, and was snap called.

Cunningham: {A-}{k-}
Stone: {K-}{k-}

The board ran out queen-high, to see Stone rocket up to 400,000 in chips, as Cunningham added another cash to the four he already has in this year’s WSOP.

Adam Stone brought in for 500, as almost the entire table called around to David Williams. He instantly moved all in for his last 31,500, as two of his opponents mucked their hands. Chris Moorman asked for a count, before making the call, as the rest folded.

Williams: {Q-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Moorman: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to see Moorman flop a pair, sending Williams to the rail.

David Vamplew Eliminated in 16th Place ($7,697)

David Vamplew

Preflop Tommy Vedes raised to 9,000. Action folded to David Vamplew. He decided to move all in. Vedes had a tough decision that gave him grief for nearly 2 minutes. Eventually he made the call and the cards are flipped.

Vedes: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Vamplew: {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Vamplew was behind and at the risk. The flop came {j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. The turn came the {8-Clubs}. The river the {j-Spades}. With that Vamplew had to exit and Vedes took his stack up to 340,000.

Vedes wanted to send out a message to Vamplew by self-titleing this hand "Greek Warlord Slays Harry Potter"

Artur Koren Eliminated in 14th Place ($9,628)

Level 16 : 0/0, 2,000 ante
Artur Koren
Artur Koren

The action started with Artur Koren opening to 50,000 in chips. He had left himself 11,500 behind, as one-by-one, his opponents folded, as it arrived at Blair Hinkle. He spent a good minute or so deliberating over the call, before finally mucking his hand. Louis Bonnecaze was the last player to act, and he tanked for a few minutes as well, before accidentally announcing "call", even though he was meant to go all in.

The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, and Koren threw in his last 11,500, and Bonnecaze called, with 500 less.

Koren: {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Bonnecaze: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Koren was unable to catch a higher pair, as the board ran out the {4-Hearts} and {8-Clubs} to see him fall to just 500 in chips.

In the next hand, Koren was all in for a quarter of the ante, and after Chris Moorman’s bet of 7,000 scared everyone else out of the pot, the cards were shown.

Koren: {k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Moorman: {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}

This time the board favored Koren, as it ran out {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}, to see him move up to 3,500, after turning two-pair.

In the third and final hand, five players limped into the pot, as did Koren (leaving himself 1,000 behind), before Tommy Vedes raised it up to 11,500. It was enough to bring instant folds from everyone, before Koren called.

Koren: {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Veded: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

Again, Koren took the lead, when the flop fell {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. However, Vedes regained his lead, when the {a-Spades} fell on the turn, and it was all over for Koren, when the {k-Hearts} completed the board.

Jason Manger
Jason Manger

Jason Manger opened to 5,000, and was called by Daniel Johnson, before Josh Macciello raised it up to 20,000. Manger then immediately shoved all in for 100,000 in chips, as Johnson’s hand flew into the muck. Macciello snap called the bet, as both players tabled their cards.

Macciello: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Manger: {a-Spades}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, as Manger was left drawing dead on the turn, when Macciello made the nut flush.
