Boatman Triples Up

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

British pro Barny Boatman has trebled his stack and is currently sitting with 205,000 chips.

There had been a raise in early position and a call in the cutoff before Boatman squeezed all in for 65,000 from his seat in the big blind. Both players called and checked down the {9-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} board, Boatman winning with his {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} when the other players mucked.

Deadman Walking

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Simon Deadman
Simon Deadman

"That was a horrible spin down," said Simon Deadman as we talked about his untimely demise from Event #49. One minute Deadman was flying high, the next he was heading to the rail via the cashier's cage.

The start of Deadman's downward spiral saw him open to 12,000 from the cutoff and face a three-bet to 29,000 from Sergei Stazhkov on the button. Deadman went into the tank before emerging with an all-in bet, a bet that was instantly called.

Deadman: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Stazhkov: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Deadman was in a typical coinflip with Stazhkov, a coinflip he would ultimately lose as the board ran out {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. To add insult to injury, Deadman had to help Stazhkov count his stack after the dealer seemed to refuse to count them! The amount was 225,500 and it left Deadman with just 62,000 chips.

Down to 10 big blinds, Deadman open-shoved from the hijack seat and the big blind called. Deadman tabled {A-Spades}{K-Spades} and was up against {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for another race. Once more, Deadman lost as the {9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Spades} flop improved the big blind to a full house, rendering the {A-Diamonds} meaningless and the {2-Clubs} river even more so.

Lutz Doubles Through Scott, Scott Busts Soon After

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Christopher Scott's tournament has ended after two hands in quick succession sent him to the rail.

Scott lost 145,000 of his stack when he called Thomas Lutz's all-in bet on a {7-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop with {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for middle pair and a flush draw. Lutz held {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for top two pair, which remained best as the {Q-Diamonds} turn was followed by the {3-Hearts} river.

Shortly after, we heard "payout" and turned around to see Scott being escorted to the payout desk.

Gathy Out

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Michael Gathy started the day as one of the chip leaders but he's out just now. We're unsure of the pre flop action but we are sure that he got his last 28,000 in pre flop with {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} from the cut off. Jeffrey Finkelstein in the small blind looked him up with {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and that hand would turn out victorious as neither improved: {K-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts} | {6-Diamonds} | {6-Clubs}.

No third bracelet for Gathy, but he can brag about cashing for the fourth time in a No-Limit Hold'em tournament at the WSOP this year.

Lily Newhouse Busted

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Lily Newhouse
Lily Newhouse

From middle position Walter Treccarichi opened to 8,000. Behind him, Lily Newhouse made it 20,500 to go and action soon was back on Treccarichi. He shoved for 111,000 effectively and Newhouse made the call for her tournament life.

Treccarichi was in trouble with his {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} as Newhouse tabled the better ace with her {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. The {2-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} on the flop and {4-Diamonds} on the turn were of no concern to Newhouse but the {8-Spades} on the river was. Her dreams of an even deeper run were halted by the eight on the river which gave Treccarichi two pair.

Gathy Doubles Robinson

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Michael Gathy opened to 8,000 and behind him Charles Nelson Robinson shoved all in from the small blind for 74,500. Gathy made the call after the big blind folded. Gathy showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and was dominated by Robinson's {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

After the flop Gathy must not have had good hopes of winning the pot as an ace featured: {A-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Gathy needed runner runner something but the {2-Hearts} on the turn would crush those dreams as well. The {7-Clubs} on the river was of no importance and Robinson doubled.

Kulicki Doubles

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Dominik Kulicki
Dominik Kulicki

Dutch player Dominik Kulicki has just doubled up. We missed the exact action but we're pretty sure it was a pre flop all in. Kulicki held the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} which was just slightly, but enough, better than his neighbor's {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}.

The {6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} | {K-Clubs} | {A-Hearts} on the board didn't help any of the parties involved. Kulicki doubled his stack and now has a fighting chance again.
