Collins Turns Napkins into a Boat

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Phil Collins three-bet to around 12,000 from the small blind after an under-the-gun open, and the big blind woke up with an all-in four-bet. The original raiser folded, and Collins called for around 18,000 more.

Collins: {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Big blind: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Collins was way behind, but the {7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop gave him a pair and some hope. The turn was a {5-Spades}, and Collins pulled into the lead with two pair. He rivered a full house with the {8-Hearts} for good measure.

Bellande Busts One

Jean-Robert Bellande

Jean-Robert Bellande opened to 2,800 from the button and the player in the small blind reraised to 8,700. Bellande grabbed a stack of orange chips (about 85,000) and put it in the middle, essentially putting his opponent all in. The player made the call and put his tournament at risk.

Bellande: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The board ran out {8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and Bellande gathered some more chips for his growing stack.

Kroon's Chips Do The Talking

Mark Kroon's Chipstack
Mark Kroon's Chipstack

A player in early position opened to 2,800 and it folded to Kroon in the small blind who made it 7,200. The player in early position made the call and the {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} flop was dealt.

Kroon led for 6,400 and his opponent folded. Kroon: "I thought this was going to be a big one." His opponent just smiled and shook his head.

It is nice to have a bunch chips to play with and that is just what Kroon is trying to do, but his table mates aren't always biting.

Turner Takes a Pass

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Jon "PearlJammer" Turner was just involved in an interesting hand that saw him and an opponent build a pot of about 12,000 by the turn with the board showing {3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{6-Hearts}. That's when Turner's opponent led with a bet of 5,600, Turner made it 14,500, his opponent reraised back to 39,000 total, and Turner called.

The river brought the {J-Hearts}, and when Turner's opponent didn't hesitate very long before setting out chips for a bet Turner quickly shipped his cards to the dealer. His opponent then turned his over quickly — showing {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} — and scooped the chips grinningly.

Clicking Buttons

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Russian Denis Pisarev checked to Nick Yunis on a flop of {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. Yunis tossed out 8,000, Pisarev check-raised to 17,500, and Yunis responded with a re-raise to 27,000. Pisarev clicked it back, making it 37,500, and Yunis chuckled before folding.

"Show the bluff," he told the Russian.

Pisarev grinned, then showed the {8-Spades}.

"Your Hands-Played-to-Set Ratio is Very Strong"

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Haralabos Voulgaris has lost more than half of his stack.
Haralabos Voulgaris has lost more than half of his stack.

We found Haralabos Voulgaris, on the button, against the small blind, on a board of {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{5-Clubs}. The small blind had check-called a bet on the flop, and he check-called 11,000 on the turn. The river was a {2-Clubs}, and the small blind led out 15,000. Voulgaris raised to 41,000.

"Well, that's bad," the small blind said, leaning back in his seat. After about 30 seconds, he called. He showed {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for a set of eights, and Voulgaris couldn't beat it.

"Your hands-played-to-set ratio is very strong," Voulgaris said dryly.

Hulyk Looking Strong As Day 2c Nears a Close

Dar'Ya Hulyk
Dar'Ya Hulyk

Every year, one of the stories that grows progressively larger the longer the World Series of Poker Main Event runs is which female entrant will last the longest. Two years ago, Erika Sands (then Erika Moutinho) took 29th in the Main Event for $242,636. Last year, Gaelle Baumann finished in 10th place for $590,442 and Elisabeth Hille took 11th for $590,442. This year, the early eyes have been placed on Dar'Ya Hulyk.

Hailing from Ukraine, Hulyk has four results on record and one WSOP cash from 2011. For that score, she took 14th in a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event for $30,431. Her others cashes are for $10,873, $15,447 and $4,225, bringing her total career earnings to $60,976.

While it's still very early in the 2013 Main Event, Hulyk is looking very strong at her table. While Baumann and Hille set the bar extremely high last year, and Loni Harwood has also cemented herself in the 2013 poker history books, it's going to take a lot for Hulyk top it all. But with roughly 220,000 chips at Day 2c nears a close, it looks like she's ready to knock on the door.

Van Luijk Has Eyes Set on the Chip Lead

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Dirk Van Luijk
Dirk Van Luijk

After an under-the-gun raise of 2,500 and two calls, Dirk van Luijk popped it up win a min reraise to 5,000. All three players called.

The flop came down {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and action checked to van Luijk who bet 10,000. He drew one call before the player who was under the gun jammed all in for 59,800. Van Luijk called as did the other player who called the initial bet. The turn was the {Q-Spades} and van Luijk moved all in for the side pot, which was dry at the time. The other player folded leading van Luijk and the player who was under the gun to a showdown.

Van Luijk: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Under the Gun: {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The under the gun player was already drawing dead so it didn't matter when the river fell the {2-Clubs}. Van Luijk collected the huge pot which put him close to the top of the pack.
