Schwarmann Continues to Build

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Nick Schwarmann
Nick Schwarmann

Nick Schwarmann led the way after Day 2a/b, and he has quietly added over 100,000 to his stack throughout the day. We just caught him taking down a small pot that has upped his stack to almost 550,000.

Schwarmann started the action with a raise to 5,200, and the big blind was the lone caller. The flop came {5-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, and his opponent checked to Schwarmann, who fired out 6,500. He was called, and the {8-Clubs} on the turn drew a check from both players. The {j-Diamonds} hit the river, and it was checked a third to Schwarmann, who this time fired out 7,600. His opponent shook his head before saying "I think I missed a bet," before sliding his cards to the dealer.

Helppi Gets a Bit From Friedman

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Adam Friedman
Adam Friedman

We caught Juha Helppi and Adam Friedman involved in a pot on a flop of {2-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Spades}. There was already a pot of 25,000 in the middle. Helppi was first to act and he put out a bet of 14,000. Friedman just called.

The turn dropped the {2-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {6-Hearts} on the river. On that card Helppi put out a hefty bet of 25,000. Friedman looked at his cards quickly before chucking them into the muck frustratedly.

Steinberg Wins Big Pot Against Mizrachi

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Max Steinberg
Max Steinberg

Max Steinberg raised to 13,000 from early position and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi defended his big blind.

The flop came down {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Mizrachi check-called 13,000 from Steinberg before leading for 25,000 when the {5-Clubs} tun fell. Steinberg raised to 70,000, Mizrachi called, and the {6-Diamonds} landed on the river. A check from Mizrachi led to bet of 120,000 from Steinberg, sending Mizrachi into the tank for about five minutes. With calling chips in his hands, Mizrachi stared down Steinberg who remained motionless. Finally, Mizrachi called.

Steinberg tabled {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a king-high flush, Mizrachi mucked, and Steinberg collected the hefty pot.

Johnson Check-Ships the River

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Chris Johnson, shown here playing in the Mixed Max event.
Chris Johnson, shown here playing in the Mixed Max event.

Chris Johnson, in the big blind, check-called a bet of 9,200 after the turn on a board of {4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. The river paired the board with the {4-Spades}, and Johnson checked once more. His opponent bet 13,100, and Johnson asked for a count on his remaining chips. Shortly after getting it, Johnson put his opponent all in for his last 76,000.

The player went deep into the tank, seeming truly torn about the decision. He thought for a few minutes before he finally said "time" to the dealer.

"He called time on himself?" the dealer asked the player in Seat 9.

After the floor was called, the clock was started. With about 10 seconds left in the countdown, the player finally folded. Johnson turned over the {7-Diamonds} as he mucked his cards, and the players next to him immediately began negotiating a side bet about what Johnson's mystery card was.

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated

Phil Hellmuth - Eliminated
Phil Hellmuth - Eliminated

Victor Cianelli opened to 5,200 and Phil Hellmuth called in position to see a {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop. Cianelli bet 10,200, Hellmuth clicked it back to 20,400, and Cianelli shoved with a covering stack. Hellmuth called all in for 56,500 total with {10-}{10-}, but was behind Cianelli's {J-}{J-}. The {4-Spades} turn and {3-Clubs} river were no help to Hellmuth, ending his Main Event.

King Phil (Gal)Fond of a Double

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

Following a raise under the gun to 5,200, Phil Galfond made the call from a few seats over as the button came along also. With the action on the big blind, he made it 21,500 to force the initial raiser out before Galfond pushed all in for 57,100. The button player folded but the big blind made the call to put Galfond at risk.

Galfond: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {Q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds} to ensure Galfond a double through to 130,000 in chips.

Two-Outer Saves Tamayo

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

A huge three-way preflop all-in hand just happened over at Table 383 in the Amazon Room.

By the time the betting had completed before the flop, a short-stacked player was all in for his last 35,000 or so with {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, Jonathan Tamayo was also all in for 177,500 with {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}, and Bryce Yockey was there as well having both of his opponents covered and holding {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}.

The dealer burned a card and spread the flop {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}, giving the short-stacked player a set and causing him to yell "Hold!" repeatedly while the remaining community cards were delivered.

The turn brought the {8-Clubs}, and the set of fours were still best, with Yockey still standing to earn a big side pot and knock out Tamayo. Then came the river… the {J-Diamonds}! A better set for Tamayo! The short-stacked player let out a groan before departing, and Yockey also expressed frustration at seeing both of his opponents hit sets while missing out on a huge pot.

Tamayo, meanwhile, sat back in his chair with his baseball cap over his face, no doubt hiding a huge expression of relief at having his tourney life saved by that river two-outer.

Alban Juen Nearly Quadruples Up

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We walked up to Table 371 in the Amazon room to see Alban Juen re-shove all-in for 18,100 after one player had already moved all in for 7,100. Two other players called Juen's bet, and the Frenchman was at risk with a chance to more than triple up.

The flop rolled out {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and the first player to act bet 17,000. The other player in the side pot folded, and the hands were revealed. Juen was in bad shape with his {A-Spades}{K-Spades} against pocket sevens and the short stack's {A-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, but the {K-Clubs} on the turn shot him out of his seat as he realized he had taken the lead. The {8-Clubs} on the river changed nothing, and Juen did some celebrating before returning to his seat to stack his 65,000 in chips.

Rivet Fills Up

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The table folded around to Guillaume Rivet on the button, who bet out 5,000. He was called by the player on the small blind, before both saw the flop come down {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. River threw out a continuation bet of 6,000 after his opponent checked, before both checked the {4-Hearts} on the turn.

The river brought the {4-Spades}, and the player in the small blind quickly reached for chips. He bet out 15,000, and after a short pause, Rivet called. His opponent rolled over his {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for two pair with a king kicker, before Rivet tabled his {4-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a full house.

Several players tapped the table after the hand, including his opponent, as he moves up to 580,000 in chips.

Six of Clubs Gets Jorgensen Massive Pot

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Theo Jorgensen
Theo Jorgensen

We walked into the middle of a monster pot between Theo Jorgensen and an opponent on a completed board of {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}. There was about 110,000 in the middle, and Jorgesen checked it to his opponent, who thought for about a minute before assembling a bet of 68,000. He slid it into the middle, and Jorgesen only had time to take a deep break before he quickly tossed in a chip to make the call.

His opponent said "nice call," but neither player showed their hand. In this situation, the player who was called must show first, and he eventually announced "pair of tens." Jorgensen showed {j-Spades}{6-Clubs} for a low flush, and it was good enough to secure the massive pot. After winning that one, he is up to 474,000.
