Kaverman Gets a Double

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Dani Stern just raised and Byron Kaverman was his only caller from the big blind.

The flop rolled out {2-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Kaverman check-called another 3,000 chips. On the turn the {10-Diamonds} hit and Kaverman checked again. Stern bet 7,000 and Kaverman put in the call.

The river completed the board with the {10-Clubs} and Kaverman checked a third time. Stern threw out another 16,000 chips and Kaverman tanked for quite a while before he decided to move all in for 32,500 total.

Stern did some tanking of his own before ultimately making the call and Kaverman swiftly tabled {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a full house. Stern mucked and Kaverman took this one down.

One for Brikis

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The action in this short-handed tournament may have slowed down a bit, but Josh Brikis just managed to chip up nicely in a hand against Kevin Saul.

We caught the action on the turn when the board read {9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. Saul bet 3,700, Amanda Muscumeci folded, and Brikis called from the button. On the river the {5-Spades} hit and Saul checked to Brikis who fired out 7,000 shortly afterwards. Saul tanked, called, then mucked when his opponent showed {K-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Griffin Benger vs. Michael Mizrachi

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Griffin Benger raised to 2,600 from the cutoff, Ricardo Alvarado called on the button, and Michael Mizrachi called from the big blind.

The flop came down {K-}{2-}{2-} and Mizrachi led for 2,600. Only Benger called, a {J-} fell on the turn and Mizrachi bet 6,400. Benger called, landing a {3-} on the river. Mizrachi check-called 10,400 from Benger and mucked when Benger tabled {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for kings and deuces.

Benger is up to 120,000 while Mizrachi is down to about 32,000.

Merson Wins Big Preflop Battle

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Greg Merson on Day 1
Greg Merson on Day 1

Grayson Ramage raised under the gun to 2,500 and from the cutoff it was Alex Bilokur who three-bet to 6,000. The 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Greg Merson was next to act from the button and he made it 14,500 to go.

Both blinds and Ramage gave up quickly after Bilokur went into the tank. After about two minutes, Bilokur put in a five-bet to 25,500 and the pressure was back on Merson. The Marylander went into the tank for 30 seconds before he announced he was all in, sitting in silence while his Russian opponent went into the tank.

Minutes went by and Bilokur kept counting down his stack down, not sure what his next move would be. After about six minutes, it was Bjorn Li who called the clock and in the final seconds of the countdown, Bilokur let go of his hand.

Merson raked in this nice pot and his run is already showing similar signs to the 2012 $10,000 NLHE 6-Max, a tournament he ultimately managed to win.
