Suriano Makes a Big Call

Level 5 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Serkan Kurnaz limped on the button and Davide Suriano checked. The flop came down {A-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Suriano check-called 12,000.

On the turn the {K-Clubs} hit and this time Suriano check-called 24,000.

The river brought out the {Q-Diamonds} and Suriano checked again. Kurnaz bet 42,000 and Suriano called after about 30 seconds, showing {J-Spades}{2-Spades}. This was enough to take down the pot and Suriano now has a commanding lead in this match.

Negreanu vs. Chen Update

Level 4 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Negreanu vs. Chen
Negreanu vs. Chen

Tommy Chen raised to 20,000 on the button and Daniel Negreanu called from the big blind.

They checked to the turn of a {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} board where Negreanu bet 15,000. Chen raised to 42,000, Negreanu called and the {Q-Clubs} river was checked by both. Negreanu tabled {A-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a straight, but Chen collected the pot with {4-Spades}{2-Clubs} for a flush.

Shortly thereafter Negreanu shoved on the button for 160,000 and Chen called with {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Negreanu led with {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, but the flop fell {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} to give Chen the nut-flush draw. Fortunately for Negreanu, the {2-Spades} turn and {Q-Spades} river gave him the crucial double-up.

The following hand, Chen raised to 23,000 on the button and Negreanu shoved for 320,000. Chen folded, but not without some choice words for Negreanu.

"Pretty pro," said Chen.

"What? Just shipping? replied Negreanu.

After a few moments of silence Negreanu added, "I didn't know what to do with the hand. Just ride the rush."

John Smith Eliminated in 11th Place ($26,584)

Level 4 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
John Smith
John Smith

After doubling up once John Smith was still short, and he was unable to pull off a big comeback.

In Smith's final hand, Ankush Mandavia raised from the button and Smith moved all in for 17 big blinds. Mandavia quickly called and showed {A-}{Q-}.

Smith was looking for help with {K-Clubs}{J-} and the flop gave him some hope as {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs} popped up. The turn, the {6-Diamonds}, and the river, the {8-Hearts}, however did not complete his flush, and Smith hit the rail in 11th place.

Just two matches are still ongoing in this round, as the next round starts at 4:00 p.m. local time.

Sam Stein raised to 19,000 on the button, Max Silver called from the big blind, and the flop fell {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Silver checked, Stein bet 19,000, Silver check-raised to 48,000, and Stein reraised to 116,000. Silver called to see the {8-Hearts} turn and checked. Stein bet 131,000 and after a few moments, Silver raised all in.

Stein called all in for 314,000 with {J-Spades}{4-Clubs} for trips, leading Silver's {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. The {Q-Hearts} river was no help to Silver, giving Stein a commanding lead.

The following hand, Silver shoved for his last 40,000-ish with {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Stein called with {A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}, eliminating Silver in 12th place.
