Benson Eliminated in 18th Place; It's Bubble Time

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Gary Benson
Gary Benson

Gary Benson: {X-}{X-} / {A-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} / {X-}
Matt Grapenthien: {X-}{X-} / {3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} / {X-}
Todd Brunson: {X-}{X-} / {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{A-Clubs} / {X-}

Benson led with a bet on fourth street, and then Matt Grapenthien called before Todd Brunson raised. Benson called all in for 7,000 total, and Grapenthien also called the raise.

On fifth and sixth streets, Grapenthien check-called bets from Brunson before everyone received seventh street face down. Grapenthien checked, and Brunson checked behind.

Brunson showed the {J-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for a pair of sixes. Grapenthien mucked to give Brunson the side pot, and then Benson showed the {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} before sweating his last card. Benson needed an ace, king, queen, jack, ten, or six to stay alive, but he pulled the {5-Diamonds} and made the only pair he couldn't win with.

With that, Brunson moved to nearly 600,000 in chips while the rest of the tournament fell to the bubble.

No Money for Soulier

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Fabrice Soulier
Fabrice Soulier

Fabrice Soulier has not managed to cash in this event because he just ran into Vladimir Schemelev's full house. On third street, Schemelev had the bring-in and Soulier completed. The action folded back to the Russian and he called. On fifth street, Soulier bet with a pair of queens showing and Schemelev raised. Soulier reraised and Schemelev called.

On sixth Soulier checked, Schemelev bet, Soulier raised all in and the Russian pro called.

Schemelev: {J-Hearts}{4-Clubs} / {4-Spades}{J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} / {3-Diamonds}
Soulier: {Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} / {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} / {K-Diamonds}

Soulier seemed livid after Schemelev turned over his full house and the Frenchman ultimately failed to turn his three of a kind into a bigger full house.

"This is not real!" Soulier cried out. "You play great, Vlad, you play great. You play great, just like Todd," Soulier added sarcastically.

After a pause, Soulier found out he still had some chips left and he said, "What were you thinking?" before settling down.

Ultimately, Soulier lasted two more hands before he hit the rail in 19th place.

A Big One For Brunson

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Todd Brunson
Todd Brunson

We caught the action on fifth street between Nikolay Losev and Todd Brunson when the latter had bet. Losev tanked for a bit and called after which Brunson bet again on sixth. This time, Losev raised and Brunson called.

On seventh street, Brunson checked again and Losev bet. Brunson called and the showdown occurred:

Losev: {X-}{X-} / {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{Q-Spades} / {X-}
Brunson: {X-}{X-} / {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Spades} / {X-}

Losev tabled {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for two pair and that was no good against Brunson's {J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a bigger two pair combination.

Updated Chip Counts; Violette Out 21st

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Cyndy Violette
Cyndy Violette

Cyndy Violette has been eliminated just a few spots short of the money in 21st place at the hands of Shirley Rosario. Also at that table, Gary Benson went from about 70,000 to 35,000 after losing out to Richard Ashby's full house, fives over fours.

Helppi and Grospellier Bust

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Juha Helppi and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier have both been eliminated. Grospellier went out first, and he fell to the hands of Barry Greenstein, who climbed to 135,000 in chips. Helppi was busted by Phil Hellmuth, who made queens and jacks to defeat Helppi's pair of fives. Hellmuth moved to 215,000 in chips.

Also of note was that Nikolay Losev just lost a pot to Richard Ashby. Ashby had two kings on his board, and another one came from his down cards to scoop the pot with trips.

"Take It Easy, Henry"

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

"Miami" John Cernuto: {X-}{X-} / {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} / {X-}
Henry Orenstein: {X-}{X-} / {K-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Spades} / {X-}

On third street, after Juha Helppi brought in, Orenstein completed. Action then folded to Cernuto, and he raised. Helppi folded, then Orenstein reraised. Cernuto called.

Cernuto check-called a bet on fourth street, before calling down on fifth and sixth street.

"Take it easy, Henry," said Cernuto after Orenstein fired the bet on sixth street. "You might be beat."

Orenstein didn't slow down on seventh street, and fired another bet. After a little bit of a tank, Cernuto folded and showed the {K-Hearts} from his hand.

"I started with king-king-eight, Phil," said Cernuto after the hand to Phil Hellmuth. "And they gave me four cards under an eight."

Hecklen's Kings Beat Obst

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

On seventh street Henrik Hecklen bet and James Obst raised. Hecklen quickly called and the showdown went as following.

Obst: {X-}{X-} / {2-Spades}{K-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} / {X-}
Hecklen: {X-}{X-} / {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} / {X-}

Obst showed {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for three of a kind but that was not enough against Hecklen's {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for three of a kind kings.
