He's Got the Wright Stuff

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

What can we tell you about Larry Wright?

Well, we can tell you the WSOP bracelet winner, who won the 2012 WSOP Event #30: 2-7 $1,500 No-Limit Draw Lowball for $101,975, hails from McQueeney, Texas and is a World Champion water skier. He also raises white tail deer, donates a large portion of his poker winnings to a charity in South Sudan, and is on the Board of Directors of the Texas Card Player Association.

It's clear that Wright, who is married with two daughters, is quite the character. As fate would have it, Wright is competing here in the Day 2a field in search of his second gold bracelet. Wright has been holding steady most of the day, but we were able to catch him in a recent hand.

In it, the player in the cutoff limped and Wright opted to raise to 2,500 from the button. The blinds both folded, the cutoff called the additional 1,700, and it was heads-up action to the {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop, which they both checked. When the dealer burned and turned the {4-Clubs}, the cutoff checked and folded to a bet of 5,500 from Wright.

Not much of a hand, but hopefully it'll pacify all of you Larry Wright fans out there.

McKeehen Calls Down

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

We found Joe McKeehen in the hijack facing a bet of 4,800 from the big blind on a board of {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. McKeehen called and the river brought a {q-Hearts}. The big blind fired 8,900 and McKeehen took a minute to think it over before dropping in a call.

The big blind turned over {9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a bricked flush draw, and McKeehen's {k-Hearts}{j-Spades} took the pot.

Jason Somerville busted out.

The cards were being flipped over after Jason Somerville got his last 15,000 in preflop when we arrived at Table 53.

Somerville: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Florens Feenstra: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Spades}{4-Spades}{a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, giving Feenstra aces to eliminate the popular American pro.

"Good luck, guys," Somerville said on his way out.

Bonomo's Boat

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Justin Bonomo (Day 1a)
Justin Bonomo (Day 1a)

Ali Davar raised to 1,600 in the hijack, Justin Bonomo called in the cutoff, and a player in the blinds called as well. The dealer spread a flop of {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, the player in the blinds checked, and Davar checked as well.

Bonomo bet 3,500, and only Davar called.

The turn was a repeat three - the {3-Diamonds} - and both players checked. The river was a third three - the {3-Hearts} - and Davar checked again. Bonomo bet 8,000, Davar quickly called, and Bonomo turned over {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for threes full of nines.

Davar mucked {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} face up.

Finger Shoves On Vamplew

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

With 24,000 or so in the pot and a board reading {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{6-Spades}{a-Spades}, David Vamplew checked from the big blind and Martin Finger bet 14,700 from middle position. Vamplew responded by check-raising to 40,000, which was about half his stack.

Finger paused for a few beats before moving all in for 58,700, and Vamplew wasn't quick to act. In fact, he hit the tank for approximately five minutes before releasing his hand.
