Small One for Mortensen

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Tom Marchese raised to 2,000 from early position, Carlos Mortensen called from the next seat, everyone else folded, and the flop came down {J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Marchese bet 2,700, and Mortensen called.

The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and both players checked to see the {7-Clubs} land on the river. Both players checked again.

Mortensen showed the {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} to beat Marchese's {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and win the pot.

Pierce Takes a Hit

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Paul Pierce still has 100 big blinds after running into kings.
Paul Pierce still has 100 big blinds after running into kings.

A player under the gun opened to 1,900, and Paul Pierce three-bet to 5,000 in middle position. The under-the-gun player made it 16,900 to go, and Pierce asked how much his opponent had behind.

"You can let this one go," the player said. "I'll show you."

Pierce decided to jam it in after brief consideration.

"He's all in?" the player said. "S***."

He called off his last 26,300, though, and he was in solid shape.

Pierce: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Spades}, causing a player who was on the button to curse, saying he folded jacks to the two raises in front of him.
