Defending Champion Falls

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 1,000 ante
John Monnette
John Monnette

The action folded all the way around to Farzad Bonyadi in the small blind and he bet enough to put John Monnette at risk in the big blind. Monnette checked his holding and pushed the rest of his stack forward — a total of 46,600.

Bonyadi drew one and Monnette stood pat, tabling a {9-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-}. Bonyadi was drawing live, however, with a {9-}{5-}{4-}{3-}. Bonyadi peeled a {7-} and the defending champion was sent to the rail.

Obsts Busts to Sammartino

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 1,000 ante
Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Shawn Sheikhan opened to 11,100 and Dario Sammartino three-bet to 36,000. James Obst then four-bet all in for 169,000.

"I wish I had it," said Sheikhan, before folding. Sammartino called and then stood pat. Obst drew one.

Sammartino showed {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a pat seven, and Obst was still alive with {7-}{5-}{3-}{2-}. He would need to make a wheel to stay alive, but could only draw a {10-} and was eliminated.

We were unable to catch the action but arrived at the table to see Mikhail Zlotnik standing up and the dealer shifting his stack across the table toward Doyle Brunson. Laid out in front of Brunson was a {9-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{4-} and Zlotnik headed for the rail.

Kalas Eliminated by Obst

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 1,000 ante

According to James Obst, his {10-}{9-}{6-}{5-}{3-} just held against Kane Kalas who drew one with {8-}{7-}{6-}{3-}. Unfortunately for Kalas, he drew another {8-} to pair and was eliminated from the tournament.

Martin Eliminated by Elias; Baxter & Merivirta Gone

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 1,000 ante

Jesse Martin open-jammed for 26,200 from middle position and was put at risk by Darren Elias out of the big blind. Elias stood pat, tabling a {j-}{10-}{9-}{4-}{2-} and Martin drew two to a {7-}{3-}{2-}.

The first card Martin peeled was a safe {9-}, but, unfortunately, the next was an {a-} and Martin's run for a second title came to an end.

The field also lost Billy Baxter and Jyri Merivirta from the outer tables.
