Kolev Chipping Up

Level 3 : 75/150, 25 ante

Yuliyan Kolev has increased his stack so far on Day 1. The most recent chips were acquired in a hand that went three-handed to the flop, after Kolev three-bet an early position open and was called by one player behind as well as the initial raiser.

The flop came {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and following one check, Kolev checked as well and the last player to act made it 1,200. This got the early position player out of the way, but not Kolev who called.

The turn was a {6-Clubs} and this time it went check-check. Finally a {9-Spades} was bet on the river. Kolev led for 1,500 and after a little hesitation, he was called.

Kolev turned over {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and it was good to win the pot.

Akenhead Spikes a Seven on the River to Survive

Level 3 : 75/150, 25 ante

The under-the-gun player raised to 300 and James Akenhead moved all in for 4,000. It folded back to the UTG player who called and the hands were shown.

James Akenhead: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The dealer fanned the {q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop and Akenhead's opponent paired his queen in the window to take control of the hand. The turn {5-Diamonds} was no help to Akenhead, but the {7-Clubs} that completed the board was.

Akenhead spiked his lucky seven on the river, improving to a full house to survive and earned the double-up.
