Fleck Defies the Odds to Stay Alive

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 1,500 ante
Katherine Fleck
Katherine Fleck

Katherine Fleck completed and Jay Kwon raised. Fleck re-raised and Kwon called. Kwon bet on fourth street and Fleck raised all in. Kwon called.

Katherine Fleck: {2-}{8-} / {a-}{8-}{j-}{2-} / {x-}
Jay Kwon: {a-}{3-} / {5-}{4-}{5-}{k-} / {x-}

Kwon had four to a wheel going into fourth street, whereas Fleck had already paired. However, on the next two draws Kwon would pair and draw a king while Fleck would draw a jack and make two pair.

Fleck completed a jack-nine low with a {9-} on seventh street, and Kwon was drawing live. However, he drew a {a-} to double pair himself and Fleck completed the great escape.

"Just when you think you've escaped, it drags you back in," said Fleck.

"That's Razz!" said someone on the rail.

Schertzer Turns 800 Chips at the Start of the Day into a Cash

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Ivan Schertzer
Ivan Schertzer

Ivan Schertzer had been slowly chipping down since players returned from dinner break, and had survived until the three-table redraw.

He got his chips all-in on third street against Kevin Iacofano and the boards ran out as follows, with Schertzer getting a lock on the hand from sixth street.

Ivan Schertzer: {5-}{9-} / {2-}{a-}{8-}{k-} / {j-}
Kevin Iacofano: {2-}{a-} / {q-}{3-}{3-}{10-} / {6-}

A short while later Schertzer was all in again against Kyle Montgomery.

Ivan Schertzer: {7-}{9-} / {5-}{4-}{3-}{k-} / {x-}
Kyle Montgomery: {3-}{2-} / {6-}{q-}{a-}{7-} / {x-}

By seventh street Schertzer had made a nine, but was behind to the seven-six of Montgomery. Montgomery drew a {9-} and Schertzer needed an ace or a deuce to make a better seven. Unfortunately for him it was a {q-} and he was eliminated.

Schertzer came into the day with just 800 chips, which was the least of anyone left in the tournament. With four antes he laddered his way up the tournament to reach what was at the start of the day an unlikely position of 23rd. He takes home $3,496.

Talbot Eliminated Bringing the Field to Three Tables

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Parker Talbot
Parker Talbot

Parker Talbot completed with his {6-Clubs} and Kevin Iacofano called. Julien Martini made it two bets and Talbot called all in for less. Iacofano called as well.

"Alright," Talbot said. "Little ones for me and big ones for them."

Parker Talbot: {x-}{x-}/{6-}{J-}{10-}{2-}/{x-}
Julien Martini: {x-}{x-}/{A-}{K-}{3-}{K-}/{x-}
Kevin Iacofano: {x-}{x-}/{A-}{5-}{Q-}{4-}/{x-}

On fourth street Iacofano bet and Martini called. On fifth, Iacofano bet again and Martini called again. On sixth Iacofano continued to bet and Martini called once more.

On seventh, both players checked. Iacofano showed down his {8-}{6-}{Q-} for an eight-six low. while Martini showed {7-}{4-}{A-} for a king low.

"Are you live?" Iacofano asked Talbot.

"Yep," he replied sweating his last card. "Fuck!"

Talbot revealed his {A-}{9-}{5-} and it was no good as he completed a nine-low which wasn't enough to keep him alive.

Urbanovich Doubles Through Taylor

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Dzmitry Urbanovich
Dzmitry Urbanovich

Dzmitry Urbanovich was all in for right around 20,000 on third street and Thomas Taylor called, putting him at risk. Urbanovich was holding {4-}{5-}{3-} while Taylor held {7-}{3-}{A-}. Here's how their board ran out:

Dzmitry Urbanovich: {4-}{5-}{3-}{2-}{3-}{10-}/{6-}
Thomas Taylor: {7-}{3-}{A-}{J-}{9-}{10-}/{2-}

Taylor drew into a nine-seven perfect, but Urbanovich pulled a six on seventh street to complete a six low to the deuce. That would allow him to double up to right around 45,000 chips.

Bubble Bursts; First Eliminations in the Money

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante
Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu

After the elimination of Rebecca Kerl, players and dealers were instructed to finish the hand they were on and hold up.

As these hands were concluding, there was an elimination. Ognjen Sekularac got his last chips in against Ronald Schiffman but the runout was less than kind.

Ognjen Sekularac: {2-}{4-} / {3-}{4-}{4-}{3-} / {k-}
Ronald Schiffman: {a-}{5-} / {6-}{6-}{7-}{8-} / {k-}

Sekularac waited at the tables as the floor staff counted the empty seats to confirm, only to find out that Kerl was the bubble and Sekularac was the first elimination in the money. Meanwhile, there was another hand, with Brandon Cantu waiting with a decision on seventh street facing a bet.

Brandon Cantu: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{5-}{j-}{9-} / {x-}
Thomas Taylor: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{4-}{4-}{2-} / {x-}

After realising that they were the last hand, and there was already an elimination in the money, Cantu called with {3-}{4-}{8-} but was met by the wheel of Taylor {a-}{3-}{6-} and was eliminated.

John Hennigan

John Cernuto: {x-}{x-}/{7-}{J-}{4-}{3-}/{x-}
John Hennigan: {x-}{x-}/{7-}{Q-}{9-}{10-}/{x-}

Action was on fifth street already when John Cernuto put out a bet into John Hennigan, his lone opponent. Hennigan called.

On sixth, Cernuto bet again and Hennigan called again. Cernuto bet once more on seventh and Hennigan called again.

"Nine-seven," Cernuto said, showing {9-}{3-}{2-}. Hennigan flashed his {5-}{3-}{2-} for nine-seven as well, but it was just slightly worse than Cernuto's. After the hand, Hennigan was left with just under 10,000 chips while Cernuto chipped up over 50,000.

What Game Are We Playing?

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Julien Martini from another event.
Julien Martini from another event.

"Good thing a reporter is here," Kevin Iacofano said as we stood behind the table. Action was already on sixth street, but Iacafano gave us a brief wrap up on how a monster of a hand exploded between Adam Owen and Julien Martini.

According to Iacafano, four bets went in on third street.

Julien Martini: {x-}{x-}/{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}/{x-}
Adam Owen: {x-}{x-}/{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{J-Spades}/{x-}

Iacofano said that Owen led on fourth street and Martini called. On fifth street, both players checked. On sixth street, Martini bet. Owen raised. Martini made it three bets. Owen made it four bets. Martini capped and Owen called.

On seventh street, Martini bet again and Owen called.

"I win," Martini said showing {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Owen mucked his hand.

"They know they're playing razz right?" someone on the rail said after the hand.

Greenstein Sent to the Rail

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante
Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

Barry Greenstein: {x-}{x-} / {6-}{10-}{K-}{5-} / {x-}
Sergey Selin: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{7-}{J-}{4-} / {x-}{x-}
Rodrigo Garrido Portaleoni: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{10-}{3-}{7-} / {x-}

Action was on seventh street in a three-way pot between Rodrigo Garrido Portaleoni, Barry Greenstein and Sergey Selin. Greenstein was already all in before seventh street action. Portaleoni was first to act and he put out a bet. Selin called.

Selin showed down his {A-}{2-}{4-} for a wheel. Greenstein could only muster {7-}{2-}{J-} and that meant he would be sent to the rail. Selin's hand was mucked as well so that meant that Portaleoni would collect the whole put chipping up over 50,000.
