Event #7: $565 COLOSSUS No-Limit Hold’em

Event #7: $565 COLOSSUS No-Limit Hold’em had an impressive 1,978 entries play Day 1c at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. There were 78 runners who found a bag at the end of 18 levels and are moving on to Day 2. Florian Duta would end up being the biggest stack moving on from this flight.

Duta started to run up a stack about halfway through the day and never slowed down, bagging an impressive 523,000 in chips. Other big chip stacks to end the day included Christian Pham (349,000), Corbin Avery (293,000), Sameer Aljanedi (264,000), and Jong Jin (242,000).

A few notables also moving on to Day 2 include bracelet winner John Racener (270,000), Alexander Lynskey (138,000), 2009 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Cada (88,000), and Clayton Maguire (220,000).

Cada won a bracelet just yesterday in Event #3: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em SHOOTOUT, and already was back grinding today. He played a short stack most of the day but made it through to Day 2 and will be looking to run up a stack. He already has over $10,000,000 in cashes and will certainly be someone to look out for during this tournament.

Abe Deguzman Jr Busted Jesse Sylvia on the bubble, just before the end of level 12. There were two tables with an all-in at the time, but Deguzman was the only players to eliminate someone during the hand. His aces held up against Sylvia and all other tables cheered as they were now in the money.

There were a lot of pros that could not get anything going in this flight and busted before the bubble, that list includes Matt Affleck, Chris Moorman, Alex Foxen, Patrick Eskandar, Georgios Sotiropoulos, Maria Ho, and Kenny Hallaert.

Players who did not make it through to Day 2 yet can still register in any of the remaining flights scheduled below.

Jin Saved on the Turn and River

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

The board read {2-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{9-Clubs} and Jong Jin from the hijack bet 23,000 into a pot that was around 60,000. His opponent moved all in from the cutoff position for more than Jin had remaining. Jin asked,"Do you have pocket nines?" before eventually making the call for his tournament life, and both players then flipped over their hands.

Jong Jin: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Jin looked discouraged to see the pocket nines that his opponent held. The {a-Clubs} came on the turn and Jin would need to fill up on the river. The {k-Spades} came on the river and did just that, as Jin doubled up on the second last hand of the night.

Padela Sends Bousquet to the Payout Desk

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Pasha Bousquet went all in for 12,500 from under the gun and Scott Padela called from early position. A middle-position opponent called as well and the flop came {5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. Both players checked and the turn came the {6-Spades}.

Padela led for 10,000 and the middle-position opponent folded. Both players then tabled their cards, Padela flipped {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for an over pair and Bousquet turned over over {k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for king high. The river came the {q-Clubs} and Padela's nines scooped in the pot.

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Rob Valden: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

The board came down {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{k-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades} and Valden took down the pot.

Duta's Birthday Comes Early

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

There was a raise of 13,000 from under the gun and Florian Duta three-bet to 53,000 from the small blind. The under-the-gun opponent called and the flop came {5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Duta bet 25,500 and was called by his opponent.

The turn came the {8-Diamonds} and Duta shoved all in, having his opponents remaining 70,000 covered. His opponent thought for a couple of moments before making the call and then flipped over {j-Spades}{k-Hearts} for king high. Duta smiled in confusion at his opponent's hand and then flipped over {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for ace high and the best hand.

The river came the {7-Hearts} and Duta's pair of sevens took down the massive pot. Duta is the first person to reach the 400,000 mark in this flight and is crushing Day 1c.
