Liu First to Bust on Day 1

Level 2 : 200/400, 0 ante

Sasha Liu dropped to 21,000 after two multi-way pots that were scooped by Chance Kornuth without showdown. First it was a raise to 1,800 by Abraham Faroni that was called three ways including Kornuth, Veselin Karakitukov and Liu, and after a checked flop of {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, a bet of Kornuth on the {6-Hearts} turn won the pot.

Then, Faroni opened to 1,200 and Kornuth came along from the button, as was Liu in the big blind. On the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop, Liu check-folded to a bet of 2,500 by Faroni and a call by Kornuth. Faroni also bet the {6-Clubs} turn for 4,000 and received the call before check-folding the {6-Spades} river to a bet of 7,800.

Liu left the tournament area soon after and David Wang confirmed that she ended up second-best with aces against his {k-}{k-}{j-}{6-}.

Ludovic Geilich

Michael Kamran raised to 900 from under the gun and Ludovic Geilich three-bet next to act to 3,000.

Action folded back to Kamran, and he called as the flop landed {2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and both players checked.

The turn fell the {10-Clubs}, and Kamran checked again. Geilich bet 3,500, and Kamran folded.

Big Pots on Table 427

Jorryt van Hoof
Jorryt van Hoof

On a completed board of {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, Mohsin Virani led for 12,200 into a pot of 16,000 and Antti Marttinen raised to 31,300. Virani wasted little time before reraising the pot and that sent Marttinen into the think tank. The Finn eventually folded and Virani claimed the pot.

"Did you have it?" Virani was asked and replied "Of course I had it," but didn't show the cards.

Another big pot was brewing soon after with Mike Krasienko on the button and Jorryt van Hoof in the small blind at it. More than 45,000 were in the middle on a {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Hearts} river and van Hoof made it 43,600 to go. Krasienko pondered over his decision and sent his cards into the muck.

On a board of {k-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} with 35,000 in the middle, Ka Kwan Lau bet 28,500 from the small blind.

Freddy Deeb was in the tank from the button and stated, "I flopped a straight, with a flush, and two pair. You must only have two kings?"

Deeb then showed his {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and mucked.

"You can steal this one, buddy," Deeb added.

Trips for Hendrix

Level 1 : 200/300, 0 ante
Adam Hendrix
Adam Hendrix

Adam Hendrix opened to 800 in the cutoff and was met with a call from the big blind.

The flop landed {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Hendrix continued for 1,200 and the big blind check-called.

Both players checked through the {5-Hearts} on the turn, and when the river landed the {4-Spades}, the big blind led for 3,600.

Hendrix called and tabled his {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades} for trips to best his opponent's {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for two pair.
