First Break of the Day

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

The first level of play in the 2019 World Series of Poker $10,000 Main Event is in the book. The Day 1a field has been sent on a 20-minute break. Things were relatively quiet in the first two hours with just two bust outs that we learned of, as Marc Serota and Jerry Atkins have both hit the rail.

That said, there were still some interesting hands and storylines:

Bonomo's Aggressive Line Brings in the Pot

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Facing a cutoff limp and a call from the button, Justin Bonomo raised to 1,000 from the big blind. Both opponents called, bringing a {3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop.

The cutoff checked, the button bet 1,500, and Bonomo raised to 4,500, and both opponents folded.

Young Takes One

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Justin Young, who recently took his seat for Day 1a action, raised to 700 from early position, and was called by the cutoff, as well as both of the blinds.

Action checked to Young on a {k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop, and he bet 1,200. One by one, his opponents ducked out of the way, and Young picked up the pot.

Emmett Off to a Rocky Start

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Randall Emmett
Randall Emmett

Lucas Picking and Randall Emmett, who didn't have a grand entrance this year for his Day 1a arrival, each committed 5,000 preflop and saw a flop of {8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}.

Picking pushed out another bet of 5,000, Emmett quickly called, and then both players checked the {3-Clubs} turn as well as the {2-Spades} river.

Picking tabled the {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} and it was good as Emmett claimed to have mucked ace-king.

Hartman Making an Early Run

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Craig Hartman put out a bet for 7,000 on a {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} board, and got the fold from his opponent. Hartman has his stack up to 87,000 as Level 1 winds down.

Orange Chip Counts Before Break

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Here is another round of chip counts from the Amazon Orange section nearing the end of Level 1.

Simunic Takes from Chidwick and Jiang

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Youcheng Jiang opened for 600 from the cutoff and Stephen Chidwick called from the button. Josip Simunic called from the small blind and it was three-way action to the {5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop, which all three players checked.

Simunic led out for 1,200 on the {8-Diamonds} turn and both Jiang and Chidwick called. All three players then returned to checking on the {2-Spades} river.

Simunic tabled the {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of kings and it was good as both Jiang and Chidwick folded.

Said and Duan Clash in Huge Pot

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Play hasn't reached the first break yet but that hasn't stopped the action from heating up over on Table 412. Bruno Gmur kicked things off with an open to 700 from under the gun and Jean Said called on the button, with Chao Duan paying to see a flop from the big blind.

The dealer laid out {9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Guan checked to Gmur, who continued for 1,700. Both players called and there was still three involved as they headed to the turn. It was the {2-Clubs} and Duan bet 2,900, which got Gmur out of the way but not Said, who called.

Heads up to the {5-Diamonds} river, then, where Guan bet 6,600. After taking a thirty seconds to think, Said raised it up to 20,600. Guan went into the tank for a full two minutes before finding a call. He mucked though as soon as he saw that Said held quads with {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.
