Welcome to Day 1a of Event #83: $1,500 The Closer No-Limit Hold’em the 2021 World Series of Poker at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Day 1a is scheduled to kick off on Friday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. local time.

In 2019, this event generated a $3,780,000 prize pool. Reigning champion Abhinav Iyer defeated a field of 2,800 entrants to win $565,346 in prize money and the coveted WSOP bracelet. Odds are high he will be back to defend his title after Iyer finished in 60th place in Event #67: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event Championship.

Notables who cashed this event in 2019 are five-time bracelet winner Shaun Deeb, three-time bracelet winner Ryan Leng, content creator Jeff Gross, fan-favorite Pat Lyons, and the late Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton.

All players will start with 25,000 chips and Day 1a will play a total of 22 levels with each level lasting 30 minutes. There will be a 20-minute break every 4 levels and a 75-minute dinner break after level 12 (~5:40 p.m.). One re-entry is allowed per flight and late registration will remain open until the end of the dinner break (~6:55 p.m.).

Stay tuned for more coverage of this event and the entire 2021 World Series of Poker from the PokerNews Live Reporting Team.

Dara O'Kearney
Dara O'Kearney

Dara O'Kearney raised to 1,200 in late position over an early position limp and Cody Clark called from behind.

It went heads up to a flop of {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{q-Spades}, both players checked to the turn of {8-Clubs}. O'Kearney fired out a bet of 1,200 and Clark quickly called to the river {7-Spades}.

O'Kearney led out for 2,700 then Clark raised to 7,200. O'Kearney shoved all-in for his tournament life and Clark snap-called, slightly covering him.

O'Kearney showed {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a full house, queens over fours and Clark flashed the {4-Clubs}.
