One of the most elusive tournaments of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) will continue as of 1 p.m. local time at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Some of the biggest names in the world of poker are set to return to their seats for Day 2 of Event #43: $50,000 Poker Players Championship, which has attracted a total of 73 entries so far.
Only 55 players survived the first six levels on Day 1 and as many levels are scheduled for the second day as well. Josh Arieh returns as the chip leader with 1,088,000 and will aim to continue his WSOP legacy after earning his fifth career bracelet some eight days ago in Event #22: $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship.
Arieh is followed by Poker Hall of Fame member and ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey (944,500), who has endured mixed fortunes during the 2023 WSOP so far, having bubbled the $250,000 Super High Roller most recently. James Obst sits in third place with 929,500 whereas fellow five-time bracelet winner John Monnette (800,500) and Viktor Blom, better known under his online moniker of "Isildur1", complete the overnight top five with 784,000.

Two-time defending champion Dan "Jungleman" Cates entered the fray in a Terminator cosplay and kept his hopes of a historic three-peat alive after he bounced back from a rough start and bagged up 305,500. Former PPC winners Elior Sion (620,000) and Matthew Ashton (565,000) can be found in the top 10, whereas Brian Rast (466,000) follows not far behind.
In a field filled with the best and brightest of the high-stakes and mixed games scene, Julien Martini, Paul Volpe, Yuri Dzivielevski, Scott Seiver, Jen Harman, Shaun Deeb, Anthony Zinno, and David "ODB" Baker are just a few notables still in contention.
The previous PPC champions Mike Gorodinsky, Michael Mizrachi and Philip Hui were not spotted in the field yet but can take advantage of the extended late registration until the end of level nine at approximately 7.30 p.m. local time. All participants start their journey with 300,000 in chips.
All levels last 100 minutes each and a total of six of them are scheduled for Day 2 with a 15-minute break after every level and a 75-minute dinner break upon completion of level nine. Stay tuned to see who shines the most during the rotation of nine different poker variants in this five-day tournament right here on PokerNews.

Alexander Wilkinson three-bet preflop to get called by Talal Shakerchi and his bet on the A♠Q♦4♥ flop was also called by Shakerchi. Wilkinson also bet the 5♥ turn for Shakerchi to raise, picking up a call by Wilkinson.
That led them to the 8♠ on the river on which Wilkinson check-called a bet. Shakerchi tabled the 10♣4♠3♣2♠ for the wheel and scooped the entire pot.

With 36,000 each in the middle to the 10♦8♣2♣J♦7♣ river, Dan Smith bet and was called by Paul Volpe who openly guessed the cards of Smith to be aces with a trey for the nut low. "Close enough," Smith responded and tabled the A♥A♦K♥3♣.
Volpe chopped with the A♠10♠6♦2♥ for two pair.
At the same time, three-way action led to the A♠K♣7♥Q♥6♥ river on which Viktor Blom checked. Scott Bohlman bet and Chris Brewer called on the button while Blom folded. Bohlman tabled the A♥8♥7♦3♠ for the nut flush and a low but Brewer had the superior low with A♣Q♣4♦2♦.

Picking action up on the turn in a three-way pot with the board reading A♠10♠2♣5♦, Scott Seiver checked in the big blind to Eric Wasserson who also checked, before Marco Johnson bet in the cutoff.
Both opponents called and the 5♠ paired the board on the river. Action got checked through to Johnson again, who now checked back.
"Full house," declared Wasserson, showing A♦K♦Q♠5♣ for fives full of aces. His opponents checked their cards for some form of low to chop the pot, but neither could and the entire pot was shipped to Wasserson.

Dylan Linde opened under the gun to 12,000 on the first hand of the day. Julien Martini called on the button and Dario Sammartino defended his big blind.
The 4♥5♠8♦ flop hit and Linde bet. Martini called and Sammartino got out of the way. The 10♣ turn hit the felt and Linde bet again. Martini called and the 8♠ hit the river.
Once more, Linde put out the final bet and although he didn't look excited about it, Martini called. Linde tabled A♦2♦J♣7♠ for the nut low and ace-jack high. Martini tabled A♠3♣9♠2♣ for the nut low and ace-nine high. Martini would only get a quarter and Linde would find value in betting three streets.
