Phil Ivey could make history Thursday at the $50,000 Poker Players Championship if he were to take down the bracelet, which would be his first title at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) since 2014.

The widely accepted poker G.O.A.T. is one of three players — Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson are the others — tied for second all-time with 10 WSOP bracelets. Phil Hellmuth, with 16 titles, is the record holder. But there could be just one player sitting in second place within the next 24 hours.

Appa Scores Double Up in Big-Hand Showdown

Shane Appa watched the action in front of him on the first hand after the break. A player in early position raised before the flop, and then a player at the cutoff flatted.

Appa looked down at his cards and three-bet all in for his remaining 27,000, an act that prompted the original raiser to four-bet all in for his remaining 70,000. The player at the cutoff asked for a count, and then folded leading to the cards to be tabled.

Shane Appa: AA
Opponent: KK

The dealer ran out 82374. Appa’s aces held for a much-needed double up.

Shammas on the Comeback

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

After losing the vast majority of his stack in the previous hand to a runner-runner flush, Joseph Shammas moved all in from the button for 3,800 and was called by four players.

The flop of AQ9 saw the cutoff moved all-in for 40,000 which got the other three players to fold.

Joseph Shammas: KJ
Cutoff: Q9

The cutoff flopped two pair, but Shammas had a gutshot which they hit on the 10 turn. The inconsequential 2 completed the board and Shammas increased their stack fivefold.

Gao Sends Opponent to Rail

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A player in late position moved all in for his remaining 22,500.

He ran into Hejia Gao, and that was a problem for the all-in player when the cards were tabled.

Opponent: 86
Hejia Gao: AQx

The dealer fanned 10A10, giving Gao a commanding lead. The A appeared on the turn and had Gao’s opponent drawing dead. The river showed an inconsequential 4, as Gao’s collected the chips and a bounty.
