Action folded to Santi Amingad in late position who raised to 20,000. The player to his direct left three-bet jammed a short stack and when action folded back around, Amingad called to put his opponent at risk and headed to a runout.
Late Position: A♠K♠
Santi Amingad: 7♠7♥
The board up to the turn looked good for Amingad's opponent when it came K♣8♦J♥2♥, but when the river came the 7♣, Amingad shut the door on his opponent and sent her to the rail after an unfortunate river card.
Action was caught after the flop of 5♠2♣3♣, and Christopher Andler led out for 16,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded and the middle position made the call.
The turn peeled off the 5♦, while Andler continued for 40,000. His opponent folded for him to scoop the pot.
Action folded to a player in late position who jammed for 61,000. Pete Pape called from the small blind to put his opponent at risk headed to a runout.
Late Position: J♦9♠
Pete Pape: A♣10♣
The board ran out 5♥5♣3♦5♦6♣, leaving the late-position player second best and sending him to the rail.
The under-the-gun player raised to 16,000. Jessica Meir called from the small blind. The big blind called, too, to see a 8♣Q♣10♣ flop.
Action checked to the original aggressor, who continued with a bet of 30,000. Meir called and the big blind got out of the way before the 9♦ came out on the turn.
Meir checked again and this time the under-the-gun player tossed out a bet of 35,000. Meir responded by check-jamming for 107,000 and her opponent didn't wait long before tossing in the call to put Meir at risk with one card to come.
Jessica Meir: K♣9♣
Under The Gun: A♣Q♠
Meir had flopped the second nut flush with a gutshot straight flush draw. But her opponent still had the nut-flush draw. When the river came the J♥, she had faded the threat and secured a full double-up.
Elsewhere in the room as this hand played out, Steve Buckner shot to his feet after tripling up when a Jx on the river gave him the best hand.
He motioned for the room to celebrate with him and suddenly, hundreds of people were cheering and clapping for the man known as "Cuz." It was one of many exuberant and amusing moments so far at the 2023 World Series of Poker.
