Bad Beat Horror Tales: David Moreno Edition

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

David Moreno called over PokerNews to recount a bad beat he recently suffered. Because we love bad beat stories.

Moreno in the small blind bet 4,000 and was called by Michael Graffeo in the big blind.

The flop was K86 and Graffeo bet 6,000. Moreno check-raised to 18,000, which did not deter Graffeo who three-bet to 46,000, which left him with 18,000 behind. Moreno announced all in and Graffeo called to be at risk for 64,000 total.

Michael Graffeo: AA
David Moreno: KK

Graffeo slow-played aces but ran into Moreno's set of kings. The 4 changed nothing on the turn, but the A on the river sure did. Ouch. With a better set, Graffeo raked in a monster pot.

Billy Cashwell is a Gentleman

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Aciton caught up with Billy Cashwell all-in against a player in the big blind, with the big blind player at risk.

"Good luck," said Cashwell to his opponent when the cards were on their backs.

Big Blind Player: 99
Billy Cashwell: KK

"Why did you say good luck?" Commented one of Cashwell's table mates who was not in the hand after the dealer rolled out the 9410 flop.

The 2 on the turn would change nothing.

"That's why," replied Cashwell after the K fell on the river, for a final runout of 94102K.

"Because I'm a gentleman," concluded Cashwell after securing the elimination.

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Ana Freitas
Ana Freitas

With 15,000 in the middle on the flop of 1085, the big blind bet 17,000 and was called by Ana Freitas from under the gun.

The turn brought the 2 and the big blind shoved 28,000 and was snap-called by Freitas, who had 25,500 remaining.

Ana Freitas: 1010
Big Blind: 77

The big blind was drawing dead after Freitas slow-played her flopped top set. The 2 made Freitas a boat on the river and the big blind was left with shrapnel.

Whitlow Plays Kings Like a Boss

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Judy Whitlow
Judy Whitlow

The player under the gun raised to 2,000 and a middle position player called. The hijack three-bet to 6,000 and Judy Whitlow in the cutoff called, as did under-the-gun. The flop came 684 and it was checked to the hijack, who bet 4,500. Whitlow decided to take charge of the hand and reraised to 10,000. Everyone folded except the hijack.

The turn brought the 3 and this time the hijack checked to Whitlow, who bet 10,000, which was called.

Both players checked the river 7 and the hijack turned over the KJ to reveal a missed flush and Whitlow turned over KK for top pair.

No Sweat for Gurevich

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Gaston Gurevich check-raised all-in for roughly 19,000 from the big blind against a player in early position on a flop that read 69K. The early position player called.

Gaston Gurevich: 87
Early Position: K10

Gurevich was on a draw and his opponent held one of his outs.

However, Gurevich wouldn't have to wait long, as the 10 immediately fell on the turn, completing the straight.

Now, ironically, Gurevich would need to fade a ten (as well as a king) to avoid elimination, which is what he was able to do on the J river, giving him the full double.
