With 14 bracelets and nearly $50 million in tournament earnings between the four of them, there's no denying that Shaun Deeb, Josh Arieh, Daniel Weinman and Matt Glantz are poker crushers. But with resumes that include a $1 million bounty pull, a body fat prop bet victory worth nearly the same amount and a win in the biggest World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in history, it's clear the group of close friends also have luck on their sides.
The four American poker players have branded themselves as "Team Lucky" — a name that Deeb may have come up with, though they aren't certain — as a way of consciously embracing and owning their good fortunes while fighting back against the jaded cynicism all to common in the poker world.
But Team Lucky is about more than once-in-a-lifetime bounty binks and turned two-outers leading to $12 million scores. As PokerNews learned during brunch with its four members, is more about friendship, camaraderie, and shared values than a good run of cards.
Action was picked up on fourth street in a hand between Rami "Razz God" Hammoud and Michelle Roth. All of Hammoud's chips had found their way into the middle and the cards hit their backs.
Rami Hammoud: 8x6x / 3x5xKx3x / 8x
Michelle Roth: 4x3x / 5x2x7x10x / 6x
Roth had made 6-5-4-3-2 for #6 and the Razz God was eliminated.
The jury is still out on the legitimacy of this claim, but the world may never know.
Federico Ottenio: XxXx / 6xKx7x7x / Xx
Aron Dermer: XxXx / 6x10xKxQx / Xx
Action was picked up on fourth street where Federico Ottenio called a bet from Aron Dermer. Ottenio took the betting lead on fifth and was calle by Dermer. Both players checked sixth street before Dermer check-called seventh street.
Ottenio rolled over 4x2xAx for a seven-six and Dermer mucked his cards, shaking his head.
Frederic Moss completed with a 3x and William Adler called with a 7x.
Frederic Moss: 7x6x / 3x8xKx5x / 2x
William Adler: 5x4x / 7x8x6x2x / 8x
Moss led on fourth street. On fifth, Adler took the betting lead and Moss called down all the way through seventh.
Adler had made 7-6-5-4-2 whereas Moss had made 7-6-5-3-2 to narrowly beat Adler and he collected a large pot.
